Stephen King’s “The Long Walk” hits theaters this September.

The Long Walk, the haunting and emotional thriller based on Stephen King’s first-written novel. It is set to hit theaters on September 12. Helmed by The Hunger Games franchise director Francis Lawrence, the film promises a gripping and harrowing look at how far people are willing to go for survival.
The screenplay is by JT Mollner, known for Strange Darling. It brings to life King’s dystopian tale first published under the author’s early pseudonym, Richard Bachman. Though it was the first novel King ever wrote, it remained unpublished until 1979. It has since gained cult status among his fans.
The Long Walk boasts an ensemble cast including Cooper Hoffman, David Jonsson, Garrett Wareing, Tut Nyuot, Charlie Plummer, Ben Wang, Roman Griffin Davis, Jordan Gonzalez, and Joshua Odjick. Veteran actors Josh Hamilton, Judy Greer, and Mark Hamill round out the cast.

Set in a chilling near-future America, the film follows 100 teenage boys forced to participate in a relentless, government-sponsored walking contest. The rules are simple—keep walking, or face deadly consequences. With its high emotional stakes and psychological tension, The Long Walk dives deep into endurance, desperation, and what it means to survive when every step could be your last.
Lawrence is known for his ability to bring large-scale, emotional dystopias to the screen. He reunites with producers from his previous successes to deliver a deeply personal and terrifyingly universal story.

The Long Walk opens exclusively in theaters on Sept. 12.
