The Mouse Trap 2: Welcome to The Mickeyverse Begins Filming in Canada

Simon Phillips stars in “The Mouse Trap 2″.

The highly anticipated sequel to The Mouse Trap is officially in the works. Titled “The Mouse Trap 2: Welcome to The Mickeyverse,” the production has commenced in Canada. Jamie Bailey will return as director after the first film’s worldwide viral success. The darkly clever horror film is from Into Frame Productions.

The original Mouse Trap became an unexpected sensation when its teaser trailer, released on Simon Phillips’ YouTube account on January 1, 2024, went viral. Millions of viewers quickly flocked to the clip, generating significant buzz for the film. Gravitas Ventures distributed the first installment across North America on digital platforms on August 6, 2024, followed by a DVD/Blu-ray release on August 13, 2024.

Simon Phillips, known for his roles in Netflix’s FUBAR with Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lionsgate’s Survive the Game alongside Bruce Willis, returns to star in the sequel. Phillips has garnered praise for his work in dark comedies such as Stealing Chaplin and horror hits like Blood and Snow.

The sequel promises to be even more ambitious, with Bailey teasing that they are “just getting started.” According to the director, The Mouse Trap 2 will expand into an entire world of open IP characters. “The idea for the next one is much grander than the original. We are creating an entire world to play in with many more open IP characters in a way that may surprise people. And it won’t just be animated characters,” Bailey said.

Production on The Mouse Trap 2: Welcome to The Mickeyverse is expected to wrap before Thanksgiving. It has a planned release in fall 2025. Fans are eagerly awaiting what could be a groundbreaking horror-comedy franchise expansion.
