The Mummy celebrates two decades of of adventure and legacy.
Today marks a thrilling milestone for fans of adventure cinema as we celebrate the 25th anniversary of “The Mummy,” the action-packed blockbuster that continues to captivate audiences worldwide. Released on May 7, 1999, “The Mummy” was directed by Stephen Sommers and starred Brendan Fraser as the dashing adventurer Rick O’Connell, Rachel Weisz as the intrepid librarian Evelyn Carnahan, and Arnold Vosloo as the menacing resurrected mummy, Imhotep. The film is set in the 1920s and follows the journey of Rick, Evelyn, and a ragtag group of explorers as they accidentally awaken the ancient and vengeful Imhotep from his cursed slumber. A whirlwind of action, humor, and supernatural terror ensues as they race against time to stop Imhotep from unleashing his evil upon the world. During filming, Brendan Fraser famously nearly lost his life during a scene where his character is hanged. The stunt went wrong, and Fraser was choked to the point of unconsciousness. Despite this severe incident, Fraser’s commitment to the role and the film’s success is a testament to the cast and crew’s dedication.
