1999’s The Mummy made Brendan Fraser a household name.

Universal Pictures has announced that it is bringing back the iconic blockbuster movie “The Mummy” to theaters across the United States in celebration of its 25th anniversary. The film was directed by Stephen Sommers and featured Oscar winners Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz. It also featured John Hannah and Arnold Vosloo. The movie is set to hit the big screen again starting on April 26, 2024. When it was first released in May 1999, “The Mummy” was a massive hit. It earned $43.4 million domestically during its opening weekend and dominated the box office charts. Its formula of action, storytelling, and visual effects quickly won over audiences worldwide, making it one of the year’s top-grossing films on both the domestic and global fronts.
Tickets for the theatrical re-release are already on sale.
They can be purchased on Fandango and various theater ticketing platforms. Additionally, fans can see the new re-release trailer in theaters starting the same day. “The Mummy” follows the story of American adventurer Rick O’Connell (portrayed by Fraser) as he leads an expedition to Hamunaptra, the fabled city of the dead. He is an ancient Egyptian priest cursed to eternal damnation. Imhotep’s quest to resurrect his lost love sets off a race against time to stop him before he unleashes unimaginable horrors upon the world.

“The Mummy” has inspired a successful franchise comprising two sequels, spin-off films, and a prequel series.
