The Naked Gun returns as Liam Neeson leads the 2025 reboot.

Paramount Pictures has released the first trailer for The Naked Gun. This new film marks the return of the beloved comedy franchise with a fresh take and a new leading man. Liam Neeson stars as Lt. Frank Drebin Jr. He is stepping into the role made iconic by Leslie Nielsen in the original series.

The Naked Gun is set for release on Aug. 1, 2025. This new film finds Drebin Jr. following in his father’s footsteps as the head of Police Squad, using his own particular set of skills to save the world — and deliver plenty of laughs along the way.
Akiva Schaffer directs the reboot. He is known for his work on Saturday Night Live and Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. The film is produced by Seth MacFarlane, the creator of Family Guy and Ted, who brings his signature comedic style to the project.
Neeson is joined by Pamela Anderson, Paul Walter Hauser, CCH Pounder, Kevin Durand, Cody Rhodes, Liza Koshy, Eddie Yu, and Danny Huston.

The original Naked Gun franchise launched in 1988. It was based on the short-lived but cult-favorite television series Police Squad!, created by Jim Abrahams, David Zucker, and Jerry Zucker. Leslie Nielsen’s deadpan performance as Lt. Frank Drebin became a staple of slapstick comedy. It led to two successful sequels and cemented the franchise’s place in pop culture.
More than three decades later, The Naked Gun returns with a new generation of cast and creators. It aims to capture the absurd humor and outrageous scenarios that made the original films so beloved.
