Wesley Snipes Sets Marvel Record with Blade Return in Deadpool & Wolverine

Wesley Snipes’ Blade comeback surpasses Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine.

Wesley Snipes has officially slashed his way into the record books! The 61-year-old actor, who first brought the half-vampire, half-human “daywalker” Eric Brooks, better known as Blade, to life in 1998, has now set a Guinness World Record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character. Snipes’ return to the iconic role in the highest-grossing Rated R movie, Deadpool & Wolverine, marks a whopping 25 years and 340 days since he first wielded Blade’s signature sword, surpassing Hugh Jackman’s previous record.

Jackman, who has famously portrayed Wolverine since X-Men (2000), was expected to break the record previously held by Sir Patrick Stewart upon the release of Deadpool & Wolverine. However, Snipes’ surprise return has taken everyone by storm, solidifying his place in the Marvel legacy. Blade first appeared on the big screen in 1998. It revolutionized the superhero genre with its gritty, action-packed take on vampire hunting. Snipes’ portrayal of the no-nonsense, leather-clad vampire slayer was a game-changer. It set the stage for the modern era of superhero films. Almost 26 years later, Snipes returns to the role that made him a household name.

Snipes holds the record for the longest career as a live-action Marvel character.

He now boasts the longest gap between appearances in Marvel films. His last outing as Blade was in Blade: Trinity (2004), and his return in Deadpool & Wolverine comes after a staggering 19 years and 231 days. This surpasses Alfred Molina’s 17-year gap between playing Doctor Octopus in Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021).

The story of Snipes’ comeback is as epic as the character himself. Ryan Reynolds, who co-starred with Snipes in “Blade: Trinity” as vampire hunter Hannibal King, personally reached out to bring Blade back to the big screen. Also returning for the third Deadpool installment was Jennifer Garner as Elektra, Channing Tatum as Gambit, and Dafne Keen as X-23. To add to the excitement, Chris Evans reprised his role as the Human Torch, Johnny Storm.

“Wesley Snipes’s return as Blade is more than just a comeback—it’s a big deal. It celebrates the lasting impact of his character on the Marvel universe and beyond. With records being shattered and excitement through the roof, fans can’t wait to see the Daywalker back in action, as Reynold posts about giving him the same send-off as Jackman.
