Wicked Set to Enchant Theaters November 27th, 2024.

After two decades as one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals, Wicked is poised to cast its spell on the big screen. The highly anticipated film adaptation of Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz arrives in theaters on November 27. It promises a spectacular, generation-defining cinematic event. Watch the trailer below!

The film stars Emmy, Grammy, and Tony winner Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba. Elphaba is a young woman ostracized for her green skin who has yet to realize her true power. Starring opposite Erivo is Ariana Grande. She steps into the shoes of Glinda, a popular young woman whose life is gilded by privilege and ambition but who has yet to discover her true heart.

The story unfolds in the fantastical Land of Oz.

This is where Elphaba and Glinda meet as students at Shiz University and forge an unlikely but profound friendship. Their bond faces a severe test following encountering The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Glinda’s unyielding desire for popularity sees her seduced by power, while Elphaba’s commitment to staying true to herself and those around her leads to unexpected and shocking consequences. Their journeys ultimately lead them to their destinies as Glinda the Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

The star-studded cast also includes Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, the regal headmistress of Shiz University. Joining her are Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, a roguish and carefree prince; Ethan Slater as Boq, a kind-hearted Munchkin student; Marissa Bode as Nessarose, Elphaba’s cherished sister; and Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard of Oz. Additional characters include Pfannee and ShenShen. They are two conniving associates of Glinda, played by Bowen Yang and Bronwyn James. Additionally, a new character, Miss Coddle, is portrayed by Keala Settle and Peter Dinklage as the voice of Dr. Dillamond.

The film is directed by acclaimed filmmaker Jon M. Chu, who is known for Crazy Rich Asians and In the Heights. Wicked is the first chapter of a two-part cultural celebration. Wicked Part Two is scheduled to enchant theaters on November 26, 2025. The film is produced by Marc Platt (La La Land, The Little Mermaid). It is based on Gregory Maguire’s bestselling novel. Wicked is adapted for the screen by Winnie Holzman, the book writer for the stage production, and legendary Grammy and Oscar-winning composer and lyricist Stephen Schwartz. The film promises to be a magical journey for fans, old and new, bringing the enchanting world of Oz to life in an unprecedented way.
