You, Me & Tuscany is a scenic Rom-Com that relies on charm over logic.

‘You, Me & Tuscany’ is the type of romantic comedy that doesn’t want its audience to ask too many questions about the plot, but rather just enjoy the Italian countryside and stunning wardrobe of its lead. It’s right in line with films that are frequently relegated to Netflix these days, so one of the biggest pros is being able to see the featured settings and landscapes on the big screen.
This is Kat Coiro’s directorial follow-up to 2022’s ‘Marry Me’, another romantic comedy which ended up making a fair amount at the box office despite a simultaneous streaming debut, proving that there is still a theatrical audience for these types of films.
Plot Setup and Story Direction
In ‘You, Me & Tuscany’, The Little Mermaid star Halle Bailey is Anna, a culinary-school dropout who jumps between gigs as a New York housesitter for the wealthy. With barely a penny to her name, it’s a way for Anna to have a place to sleep while simultaneously allowing her to at least pretend she’s living a life of luxury.
After getting fired from one gig, Anna finds herself in a hotel bar chatting with Matteo (Lorenzo de Moor), an authentic Italian who talks up the beauty of his homeland of Tuscany. Tuscany is, of course, the location that Anna and her mother had always fantasized about visiting together and opening their own restaurant.
Anna makes the leap and travels to Tuscany, where she squats in Matteo’s house, unbeknownst to him. This leads Anna on a journey of adventure, lies, and a new romance with Matteo’s relative, Michael (Regé-Jean Page).
Style Over Logic
How did the penniless Anna afford a plane ticket to Italy? How come every outfit Anna wears is flawless and brilliant? These are questions that logical minds would ask, but the film is mostly devoid of actual logic and reasoning — which is fine. It’s not trying to make you think too hard and instead just enjoy the sights and sounds of Italy.

Speaking of Italy, the film was shot on location along the southern Italian coast. The sunrises and sunsets seen at the villas and vineyards are truly stunning. Once the film moves from New York to Italy, there’s hardly a frame of the movie that doesn’t feature some sort of beauty.
Performances and Supporting Cast
The romcom tropes of setting and wardrobe would be more easily overlooked if the performances justified it. Bailey almost seems uncomfortable throughout a lot of the film. I found Bailey to have incredible starpower in the live-action adaptation of ‘The Little Mermaid’, but that energy is mostly lacking here. Page is in a similar boat. While he has the looks of a romantic lead, his stoic demeanor comes across as colder and more off-putting than that of a love interest.

Thankfully, the wacky supporting cast provides the energy needed to keep the rest of the film afloat. I found most of them charming enough that I was genuinely interested to see how Anna eventually informed them of her web of lies.
Verdict
‘You, Me & Tuscany’ is a serviceable romantic comedy full of stunning views and visuals. While the plot and leads leave a bit to be desired, it’s still the kind of date night fare that can be enjoyed while sipping a glass of the house cabernet.
