Marvel is gearing up for the debut of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man on Disney+ with an exciting prequel comic book series set to introduce fans to a fresh take on Peter Parker’s early adventures. Written by acclaimed Marvel writer Christos Gage and illustrated by up-and-coming artist Eric Gapstur, the five-issue series explores Peter’s journey to becoming Spider-Man, capturing his first encounters with his new powers, iconic villains, and even his costume choice.
This prequel series, announced by Marvel, promises to give readers a deeper look at Peter’s formative experiences as the hero we all know. It presents a younger, inexperienced Spider-Man who is still in high school. He is figuring out what it means to balance life as a student and as a superhero. With the addition of a reimagined cast, the story will also feature Nico Minoru from Runaways, providing a unique twist for longtime fans.
“This series allows me to explore Peter Parker’s earliest exploits,” said Gage. “While we’re sticking to the roots of the Spidey everyone loves, we’re introducing new elements, characters, and surprises. This isn’t just a retelling; it’s a new take on a classic story.”
The series’ artwork will bring these early Spidey moments to life with bold visuals from top Marvel artists.
Covers for the issues have been revealed. The artwork is by Leonardo Romero, Natacha Bustos, and InHyuk Lee. There is also an exclusive Animation Variant Cover. Each offers a glimpse of Peter’s early encounters in his first battles and his rookie crime-fighting challenges.
Fans can expect Peter Parker’s internal struggle to come alive. He juggles superhero responsibilities with the challenges of being a high school freshman.
