New “Zootopia 2” Trailer Introduces Reptile Characters and Features New Song by Shakira

Shakira, Ed Sheeran, and Blake Slatkin team up for Zootopia 2 original song.

Walt Disney Animation Studios has released a brand-new trailer for Zootopia 2, giving audiences a first glimpse of new characters, fresh storylines, and the debut of an original song by global superstar Shakira.

The sequel brings back rookie cops Judy Hopps (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and Nick Wilde (voiced by Jason Bateman), who find themselves navigating uncharted territory when they discover a hidden reptile population within Zootopia. The preview highlights a tense encounter with a mysterious pit viper named Gary De’Snake, voiced by Academy Award-winner Ke Huy Quan. the film is directed by Disney Animation’s chief creative officer, Jared Bush, and Oscar-winner Byron Howard, with Yvett Merino producing.

New Music Spotlight

Central to the new trailer is “Zoo,” a high-energy anthem performed by Shakira, who reprises her role as Gazelle. Written by Ed Sheeran, Blake Slatkin, and Shakira, the single is set to release on October 10, ahead of the full soundtrack. The track is produced by Slatkin, Alex (A.C.) Castillo, Sheeran, and Shakira.

Disney and SiriusXM will offer fans an exclusive first listen on Disney Hits (channel 133) on Oct. 8, with the song playing every hour throughout the day. The soundtrack, featuring a score by Academy Award winner Michael Giacchino, will be available on November 21, just days before the film hits theaters on November 26. Sheeran and Slatkin also make surprise cameos in the sequel as sheep characters named Ed Shearin and Baalake Lambkin.

Expanding the World of Zootopia

The trailer also introduces new voices to the star-studded ensemble. Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, Macaulay Culkin, and Brenda Song play the Lynxleys, one of Zootopia’s most prominent families.

Additional cast members include:

• Fortune Feimster as Nibbles Maplestick, a beaver podcaster investigating reptile conspiracies.
• Idris Elba is reprising his role as Chief Bogo.
• Patrick Warburton as actor-turned-politician, Mayor Brian Winddancer.
• Quinta Brunson as Dr. Fuzzby, a therapy quokka.
• Nate Torrence is returning as Clawhauser, the police department’s lovable cheetah receptionist.

Following Up a Global Hit

The original Zootopia won the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2016 and featured the breakout anthem “Try Everything,” also performed by Shakira. That track has since been streamed 2.7 billion times worldwide.

With Zootopia 2, Disney looks to blend familiar fan-favorite characters with new species, new music, and an expanded storyline. The combination of star power, fresh additions, and a new Shakira anthem sets the stage for another global hit.

Zootopia 2 opens in theaters nationwide on Nov. 26, 2025.
