1923 stars talk Season 2 finale, Texas life, and Taylor Sheridan’s genius.

Paramount+ wraps up another stirring chapter of 1923 this weekend, as the highly anticipated Season 2 finale, titled “A Dream and a Memory,” debut today! The seventh episode promises tension, heartbreak, and long-awaited reunions. As Jacob (Harrison Ford) and Cara Dutton (Helen Mirren) continue to hold the ranch together in a brutal Montana winter, their hope hinges on Spencer’s (Brandon Sklenar) return. Meanwhile, Teonna (Aminah Nieves) faces a fateful moment, and Alexandra (Julia Schlaepfer) pushes through a freezing journey of her own.
Ahead of the finale, I caught up with series standouts Michelle Randolph (Elizabeth Strafford) who also stars in Landman and Aminah Nieves (Teonna Rainwater), who shared their personal reflections on the journey so far, Taylor Sheridan’s vision, and how their characters might exist in today’s world.
“Everything he writes—everything,” Randolph said, calling Sheridan a genius for building out a cinematic universe that includes Yellowstone, Tulsa King, and Landman. Nieves also chimed in with admiration: “He’s created something so vast, but still so grounded in truth.”
Asked where their characters might end up if they were born in modern times, both actors had unique takes.
“Teonna would definitely be on the front lines,” Nieves said without hesitation. “She would be making her voice heard unapologetically.” Randolph believed Elizabeth would lean into motherhood. “She’s so passionate about family,” she said, imagining her character living out her life somewhere like Boston or New York. The two laughed about their imagined present-day friendship, with Nieves declaring, “Besties. For real. I hope so.”

Both actresses are currently in Texas, and Nieves revealed that horseback riding has become her new obsession thanks to filming. “Now I’m living in Texas, so I’m going to definitely be riding way more,” she said. “People are gonna start calling me horse girl!”
Randolph tried to pick up knitting during the series, inspired by a scene in Season 1. “I didn’t get very far,” she admitted, laughing. “But I wanted to!” Working alongside icons like Mirren and Ford left a lasting impact. Randolph recalled an important lesson from Mirren. “She told me after we wrapped a scene, ‘It’s like a bow and arrow. Release it. Let it go. Don’t think about it,’” she said. “That really stuck with me.” Nieves also praised co-stars like Sebastian Roché for offering valuable mentorship throughout their time on set.

As fans gear up for the Season 2 finale, it’s clear the emotional stakes have never been higher—and for many, the connection to 1923 runs deep thanks to grounded performances by stars like Randolph and Nieves, who continue to bring soul, strength, and humanity to the screen.
The finale of 1923 Season 2 is now streaming on Paramount+.
