Aaron Pierre takes on the iconic role of John Stewart in HBO’s Lanterns.
Aaron Pierre has been cast as John Stewart in the upcoming HBO Original drama series Lanterns. HBO produces the highly anticipated series in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. The show will follow Pierre’s Stewart, a new recruit to the Green Lantern Corps, as he teams up with the legendary Hal Jordan to investigate a murder that leads them into a dark, earth-based mystery.
The series offers a fresh take on the Green Lantern mythos and is set in the American heartland. It focuses on the lives of the two intergalactic law enforcers. John Stewart and Hal Jordan are drawn into an increasingly complex investigation that is expected to test their abilities as both Earth protectors and Green Lantern Corps members.
Pierre, an actor rapidly gaining recognition, brings a strong body of work to his portrayal of Stewart.
He is currently the lead in Jeremy Saulnier’s Rebel Ridge. It debuted on Netflix on September 6 and held the #1 spot worldwide for three consecutive weeks. In December, Pierre will star as the titular character in Mufasa: The Lion King, Barry Jenkins’ highly anticipated animated prequel for Disney, further solidifying his standing as a major force in Hollywood.
Pierre’s recent projects also include his role as Malcolm X in NatGeo’s Genius: MLK/X. He also appears in films such as Foe alongside Paul Mescal and Saoirse Ronan, Brother directed by Clement Virgo, and Barry Jenkins’ critically acclaimed series The Underground Railroad. In addition to his Lanterns role, Pierre is currently filming for The Morning Show.
Lanterns joins HBO’s slate of superhero adaptations. It follows the network’s tradition of producing critically acclaimed, high-quality content in collaboration with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios. WME, Anonymous Content, Hamilton Hodell, Sloane Offer Weber Dern, and Narrative represent Pierre.
The Lanterns series is poised to become a key entry in the expanding DC Universe.
