‘Landman’ dives into boomtown drama of West Texas oil country.

Taylor Sheridan, co-creator of Yellowstone, is bringing a new modern-day drama, Landman, to Paramount+ this month. Premiering on November 17, the series is inspired by the 11-part podcast Boomtown and takes place in West Texas, a region characterized by roughneck grit and billionaire luxury amid a rapidly changing landscape of oil rigs. In Land man, Sheridan captures the high-stakes world of oil exploration, where fortunes rise and fall, and the implications stretch across climate, economy, and geopolitics.
Oscar-winning actor Billy Bob Thornton leads the cast as a central figure in this world, blending his subtle intensity with Sheridan’s layered storytelling. The show also stars Ali Larter, Michelle Randolph, Jacob Lofland, Kayla Wallace, James Jordan, Mark Collie, Paulina Chávez, and Demi Moore, with Jon Hamm, Andy Garcia, and Michael Peña guest appearances.
Conversation with Ali Larter.
During an interview, Larter expressed her excitement about portraying a character in such a multidimensional series and praised Sheridan’s ability to weave complex narratives. “Taylor is a master storyteller. He doesn’t just show you the glory; he lets you see when characters crumble,” Larter said, describing the depth and authenticity Sheridan brought to Landman’s storytelling.
Larter, who portrays Angela, reflected on how Sheridan and podcast creator Christian Wallace have constructed a world that feels both real and cinematic, “Christian Wallace created this podcast with a very authentic eye into oil in the Permian Basin, and Taylor comes in to bring that world to life in a way that only he can.” For Larter, the opportunity to delve into both powerful and vulnerable aspects of her character was one of the “greatest gifts as an actor.”

For Larter, the experience was heightened by working alongside Thornton, whom she describes as an actor with “a unique and subtle intensity.” “Billy Bob is a writer, director, and actor, and his understanding of the entire filmmaking process really brings a passion to his performances,” she noted. Working with Thornton encouraged her to dig deeper into their characters’ connection, and they often found unexpected moments of humor amid the drama.
In addition to discussing Landman, Larter shared a few thoughts on her Final Destination co-star, the late Tony Todd. Todd, who passed recently, had left an indelible mark on her as both a colleague and a friend. “He was incredibly talented and very kind,” she said warmly. “I’m so glad I got to know him.”
