Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx face espionage in ‘Back in Action.’
After an extended hiatus, Cameron Diaz is set to make her highly anticipated return to acting. She will star in Back in Action, an upcoming Netflix film premiering on Jan. 17, 2025. Diaz stars alongside Jamie Foxx in this high-stakes action comedy, marking her first role since stepping away from Hollywood in 2014.
Directed by Seth Gordon, Back in Action centers on Emily (Diaz) and Matt (Foxx), two former CIA spies who left the world of espionage behind to build a quiet family life. However, their peaceful existence is disrupted when their cover is unexpectedly blown, forcing them back into the dangerous world they thought they’d left for good. As they scramble to protect their family, Emily and Matt must navigate an onslaught of intrigue, close calls, and covert missions, rekindling their spy skills and teamwork.
The cast features an impressive lineup.
It includes Friday Night Lights star Kyle Chandler, and Oscar-winning actress Glenn Close. Also featured are Andrew Scott, Jamie Demetriou, McKenna Roberts, and Rylan Jackson. Diaz initially retired from acting nearly a decade ago, shifting her focus toward family and business ventures. In recent interviews, she has expressed enthusiasm about working with Foxx again. Reportedly, he persuaded her to join the project after their successful collaboration on 2014’s Annie. This reunion with Foxx, paired with the script’s blend of humor and action, reportedly played a significant role in her decision to return.
Back in Action is all about bringing the laughs and some edge-of-your-seat excitement. With Diaz and Foxx leading the way, it mixes those sweet family moments with some serious spy action. Fans can catch Diaz back in action on Netflix starting January 17, when the show drops on the streaming service.
