Conan O’Brien to Host 97th Oscars

Conan O’Brien brings his wit to the Oscars stage for the first time.

Emmy-winning television host and comedian Conan O’Brien will take center stage as host of the 97th Oscars. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced this today. This marks O’Brien’s first time hosting the event, which will air live on Sunday, March 2, 2025, at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT on ABC.

“Conan O’Brien is the perfect person to lead our global celebration of film,” said Academy CEO Bill Kramer and President Janet Yang. “His humor, love of movies, and live TV expertise make him an ideal host.” O’Brien, who joked, “America demanded it, and now it’s happening,” joins a prestigious lineup of past hosts, including Chris Rock, Bob Hope, Billy Crystal, Whoopi Goldberg, and Jimmy Kimmel. His sharp wit and unique comedic style have made him a household name through shows like Late Night with Conan O’Brien, The Tonight Show with Conan O’Brien, and Conan.

The Academy’s decision to feature O’Brien reflects its efforts to revitalize the ceremony’s appeal with a fresh comedic perspective. Craig Erwich, President of Disney Television Group, praised O’Brien as a “preeminent comedic voice” and welcomed his addition to the Oscars’ storied history of hosting excellence. O’Brien’s extensive resume includes writing for Saturday Night Live and The Simpsons, hosting the popular podcast Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend, and starring in the 2024 travel series Conan O’Brien Must Go. Over his career, he has garnered five Primetime Emmy wins and 31 nominations.

It will take place at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

It will air in more than 200 territories worldwide. The live red carpet coverage begins at 6:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. PT, setting the stage for a night celebrating the year’s best in cinema. With O’Brien as host, Hollywood’s biggest night promises a mix of humor, heart, and homage to filmmaking.
