Alien: Romulus is the revival fans have been waiting for.

Prepare yourself for an intense, nerve-wracking cinematic experience as 20th Century Studios’ Alien: Romulus. It is set to hit theaters nationwide on August 16, 2024. This sci-fi horror thriller is brought to life by legendary producer Ridley Scott and visionary director Fede Alvarez. He takes the Alien franchise back to its roots in the most terrifying way possible. If you’ve been yearning for the franchise to recapture the dread and tension of its early days, Alien: Romulus is the film you’ve been waiting for.
From the very first frame, Alien: Romulus grips you with its dark, atmospheric setting.
The film follows a group of young space colonizers who, while scavenging the deepest ends of a derelict space station, come face-to-face with the most terrifying life form in the universe: the Xenomorph. Alvarez masterfully crafts a story filled with edge-of-your-seat tension, where every shadow holds potential danger, and every noise could signal the end. It’s everything you’d want from an Alien movie and more—a perfect blend of claustrophobic horror and heart-pounding action.
One of the standout features of Alien: Romulus is its aesthetic. It pays homage to the 80s and 90s sci-fi vibes while still feeling fresh and modern. The practical sets and effects are spectacular, giving the film an authentic, lived-in feel that CGI-heavy productions often lack. Even the CGI, when used, is seamless and adds to the terror rather than detracting from it. Alvarez’s commitment to practical effects really shows his dedication to paying homage to the franchise’s legacy.

The cast is also worthy of praise.
Particularly David Jonsson, who is the android, and Cailee Spaeny, whose performances are the true standouts of the film. Jonsson’s portrayal of the droid is authentic and strong, a worthy successor to the iconic androids of previous Alien films. Spaeny pulls off a great performance at the heart of the movie, making her character’s journey one of the most memorable parts of the film.

What’s more, Alien: Romulus offers plenty of scares, with twists and turns that will leave you guessing until the very end. Set between the events of Alien and Aliens, the film cleverly ties into the franchise’s established lore, with a surprising connection to the original films that fans will undoubtedly appreciate.
Verdict
I give Alien: Romulus 4.5 out of 5 stars. Fede Alvarez has successfully brought the Alien franchise back to its terrifying roots, delivering the best sequel in decades. Alien: Romulus is a must-watch in IMAX for anyone who loves sci-fi horror, offering a truly terrifying experience that will haunt you long after the credits roll.

I thought this was a really great film. Many of my stories are in the horror sci fi genre and I thought Alien Romulus was just solid all around. It’s hard to balance an originalstory with new ideas when a franchise is so large and beloved, but I think they did it very well.
