Anaconda gets a limited edition 4K SteelBook.
The fan-favorite thriller Anaconda (1997) is set to make its debut on 4K Ultra HD Limited Edition SteelBook. It will be released on December 9, allowing fans to relive the over-the-top jungle adventure that made the giant snake terror a box office hit.
Luis Llosa directed the original film. It starred Jennifer Lopez, Ice Cube, Academy Award winner Jon Voight, Eric Stoltz, Jonathan Hyde, and Owen Wilson. The story follows a documentary film crew searching for a lost civilization in the Amazon. When they encounter enigmatic guide Paul Serone (Voight), they’re forced into a deadly fight for survival against a legendary anaconda.
4K Ultra HD Release Details
The SteelBook edition features a new 4K restoration from the original camera negative. It is accompanied by Dolby Vision, as well as English Dolby Atmos and 5.1 audio. Bonus content includes:
- Interviews with director Luis Llosa and co-writer Hans Bauer
- Deleted and extended scenes
- Theatrical trailer
Legacy of the Original
Released in 1997, Anaconda became a cult favorite despite mixed reviews, earning a reputation for its campy thrills and star-studded cast. The blend of adventure, suspense, and creature-feature spectacle secured its place as one of the most memorable monster movies of the late ‘90s.
A New Chapter in 2025
The 4K re-release arrives just as the franchise slithers back to the big screen. Opening December 25, 2025, a new Anaconda film is being released. It stars Jack Black and Paul Rudd as childhood best friends who attempt to remake their favorite movie — only to encounter a real giant snake. Directed by Tom Gormican (The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent), the comedy-action adventure also features Steve Zahn, Thandiwe Newton, Daniela Melchior, and Selton Mello.
With its mix of absurd humor and high-stakes danger, the 2025 film aims to reinvent the franchise for a new generation, while the 4K SteelBook ensures the original remains a must-own classic.
