The Avatar universe continues to grow as Paramount+ and Avatar Studios announced major developments for the beloved animated franchise during New York Comic Con. Avatar: The Last Airbender co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko took the stage to reveal that Avatar: Seven Havens has officially been renewed for Books 3 and 4, while also unveiling a brand-new animated series, Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos.
The announcements came as Avatar: Seven Havens launched its first three episodes globally on Paramount+, giving fans plenty to celebrate as the franchise begins its next chapter.
The panel also featured executive producer Ethan Spaulding, co-executive producer Sehaj Sethi, and voice actors Saheli Khan, Aishu Devan, and Major Curda. Janet Varney, the original voice of Korra from The Legend of Korra, moderated the discussion.
Attendees received an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of Avatar: Seven Havens, including a special script-to-screen presentation highlighting how the series develops from its written material into finished animation.
Avatar: Seven Havens Renewed for Books 3 and 4
Paramount+ is making a significant commitment to Avatar: Seven Havens by officially renewing the animated series for two additional books before its first season has finished rolling out.
Books 3 and 4 will continue the adventures of Avatar Pavi and her twin sister Nisha, expanding a story that introduces another generation of characters to the franchise.
The renewal confirms that the creative team has plans extending well beyond the show’s initial episodes. With Books 2, 3, and 4 now part of the series’ future, audiences can expect Pavi and Nisha’s journey to continue across multiple installments.
The first three episodes of Book 1 premiered globally on Paramount+ on October 9, with the remaining episodes scheduled to arrive throughout the month.
The release schedule includes:
- October 9: Episodes 1-3
- October 16: Episodes 4-6
- October 23: Episodes 7-9
- October 30: Episodes 10-13
Book 1 consists of 13 episodes, with the final four arriving just ahead of Halloween.
Additional details about Books 2, 3 and 4, including their premiere dates, will be announced later.
Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos Announced as New Animated Series
Alongside the Seven Havens renewal, DiMartino and Konietzko announced Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos, another original animated series heading to Paramount+.

Rumors of an Avatar Kuruk animated series had circulated ahead of NYCC, with Knight Edge Media previously reporting the project was in development. The official announcement of Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos now confirms the series, which follows a rebellious teenage Avatar who challenges centuries of tradition and approaches his responsibilities differently from his predecessors.
Rather than following thousands of years of tradition, Kuruk chooses to master the four elements through adventures around the world.
His unconventional approach leads him into confrontations with an increasingly frustrated teacher, dangerous pirates, and unpredictable spirits. Despite constantly finding trouble, the young Avatar remains determined to help people and protect the world in his own way.
The premise promises a different perspective on the Avatar’s responsibilities, placing a free-spirited teenager at the center of a story about mastering the elements while challenging established expectations.
Fans attending the New York Comic Con panel were treated to an exclusive first look at Kuruk and his animal companion, Nikik.
Avatar: Kuruk: Wave of Chaos is being produced by Avatar Studios and Nickelodeon Animation Studios, with franchise co-creator Bryan Konietzko serving as showrunner.
The series further expands the animated universe by exploring another Avatar’s adventures outside the central stories of Aang, Korra and Pavi.
A premiere date and additional casting details have not been announced.
Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game Reveals New Seven Havens Content
The New York Comic Con presentation also featured updates on Avatar Legends: The Fighting Game, which is receiving new content inspired by Avatar: Seven Havens.
During the panel, Janet Varney revealed special Seven Havens-themed colorways for the game’s entire playable character roster.
The presentation also showcased Sonam’s temple as an in-game stage, bringing another location from the expanding Avatar universe into the fighting game.
Developers are continuing to connect the different parts of the franchise, allowing players to experience characters, environments, and visual designs inspired by the latest animated productions.
The panel also highlighted an upcoming OS: NYC event tied to the game.
Braving the Elements Podcast Expands Coverage
Fans interested in learning more about the development of Avatar: Seven Havens will also have additional opportunities through the official companion podcast, Avatar: Braving the Elements.
Hosted by Janet Varney and Dante Basco, the original voice of Zuko from Avatar: The Last Airbender, the podcast explores the franchise through discussions with the people responsible for bringing its characters and stories to life.
Three new episodes debuted during the launch week of Seven Havens, with two additional episodes scheduled each week throughout the show’s Paramount+ rollout.
The upcoming installments will feature exclusive interviews with the animated series’ creators and cast, along with additional conversations about the show’s characters and production.
Fans can watch episodes on the official Avatar Legends YouTube channel or listen through podcast platforms.
Expanding the Franchise
The latest announcements reinforce Paramount+’s commitment to building the Avatar franchise through multiple animated projects.
Since Avatar: The Last Airbender premiered on Nickelodeon in 2005, the series has developed a devoted international following through its combination of elemental bending, detailed worldbuilding, and character-driven storytelling.
Its sequel, The Legend of Korra, introduced another Avatar and expanded the mythology surrounding the Avatar Cycle, the Spirit World and the responsibilities of maintaining balance.
With Avatar: Seven Havens exploring the adventures of Pavi and Nisha, and Avatar Kuruk: Wave of Chaos turning its attention to another generation of the Avatar Cycle, Avatar Studios is continuing to explore stories across different periods of its fictional history.
The involvement of original creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko remains central to the franchise’s animated expansion.
While Seven Havens will continue through at least four books, Wave of Chaos adds another original television production to Paramount+’s growing collection of Avatar content.
Avatar: Seven Havens Book 1 is now streaming on Paramount+, with new episodes arriving October 16, October 23, and October 30.
