Daredevil: Born Again Star Ayelet Zurer Explains What Drives Vanessa Fisk Forward- INTERVIEW

Ayelet Zurer talks Vanessa Fisk’s power, loyalty, and evolution in Dardevil: Born Again.

Ayelet Zurer continues to build an impressive run across television with major roles in both Prime Video’s House of David and Marvel Television’s Daredevil: Born Again. Known for bringing depth and intelligence to every performance, Zurer has become a standout presence in high-stakes dramas, whether she is stepping into a biblical epic or the dark, dangerous streets of New York City.

In Daredevil: Born Again, Zurer stars alongside Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Deborah Ann Woll, Wilson Bethel, Margarita Levieva, Krysten Ritter, and Matthew Lillard. Her return as Vanessa Fisk adds even more weight to a series already packed with powerhouse talent, and her performance continues to show why she remains such a vital part of the story.

During our conversation, Zurer reflected on stepping back into Vanessa’s world and how quickly the character came back into focus.

She revealed that wardrobe played an important role in reconnecting with Vanessa’s mindset, noting, “Two things. One, wardrobe, high heel shoes that you can die walking in, and really awesome outfits.” She added that reuniting with D’Onofrio immediately helped reestablish the dynamic that defines their characters, explaining that his presence completes the emotional rhythm between Vanessa and Wilson.

The Creative Partnership Behind Vanessa and Wilson Fisk

One of the defining elements of Daredevil: Born Again remains the intense connection between Vanessa and Wilson Fisk. Zurer shared that their collaboration began with a surprisingly simple approach rooted in trust and instinct. She recalled an early conversation with the show’s creative team when D’Onofrio summed up their method by saying, “We’re going to listen to each other and react.”

That organic approach helped shape the powerful on-screen chemistry audiences have come to appreciate. Zurer described how D’Onofrio’s commanding performance influences her own portrayal, saying his physicality and presence immediately impacted how she approached Vanessa’s energy. She explained that while Wilson’s intensity feels large and unpredictable, Vanessa’s strength emerges through precision and restraint, creating a balance that continues to evolve naturally throughout the series.

A More Experienced and Strategic Vanessa

When audiences reunite with Vanessa in Season 2, they encounter a character who fully understands the world she inhabits. Zurer emphasized that Vanessa is no longer naive about the consequences of power, explaining, “She’s way more naive at the beginning… but when we meet her in Daredevil: Born Again, she already knows the game and she’s seen a lot.”

Zurer wanted Vanessa’s growth to feel authentic, reflecting both the passage of time and the character’s experiences. She shared that she focused on portraying Vanessa as someone who has matured emotionally and intellectually, giving her more depth and confidence. The writing also provides opportunities to explore Vanessa’s past in new ways, particularly through therapy sessions that reveal motivations and vulnerabilities previously left unexplored.

She also highlighted how Vanessa has become more involved in shaping the world around her, describing the character as a true partner in navigating power and influence.

Taming the Kingpin

Zurer offered a powerful perspective on Vanessa’s role in Wilson Fisk’s life, describing her as someone who understands his nature deeply. Rather than trying to change him, Vanessa works to guide him when necessary. Zurer compared Vanessa’s approach to that of a lion tamer, explaining that she recognizes Wilson’s intensity but knows how to steady him when situations demand control.

This understanding allows Vanessa to operate within Wilson’s world without losing her own sense of identity. Zurer emphasized that Vanessa accepts who Wilson truly is, which gives their relationship a foundation built on honesty rather than illusion.

Confronting Fear and Taking Action

Season 2 introduces new threats that challenge Vanessa’s sense of safety and stability. Zurer explained that a central theme revolves around questioning what is truly enough and whether security can ever be guaranteed in their world. She shared that once Vanessa realizes safety may always be uncertain, fear begins to shape her decisions.

However, rather than retreat, Vanessa becomes more determined. Zurer described her mindset as someone who refuses to remain passive, saying that Vanessa ultimately chooses to confront danger head-on. She noted that Vanessa is willing to sacrifice herself if necessary to protect Wilson, revealing a deeper layer of emotional strength that defines her character’s journey this season.

A Relationship Defined by Emotional Balance

Zurer also explored the emotional differences between Vanessa and Wilson’s motivations. She believes Vanessa finds fulfillment in their connection, while Wilson continually seeks more power and influence. According to Zurer, Vanessa sees Wilson as protection, while she represents the emotional core that sustains him.

Their bond reveals how deeply interconnected they are, yet how differently they view the world around them. That contrast adds tension and emotional complexity to the series’ unfolding story.

Vanessa Fisk’s Guiding Principles

When asked what personal motto best defines Vanessa, Zurer offered three words that capture the character’s essence: “Truth, loyalty, love.” Those guiding values continue to shape Vanessa’s decisions as the stakes rise in Daredevil: Born Again Season 2.

Through Zurer’s performance, Vanessa Fisk emerges as more than a supporting figure within Wilson Fisk’s empire. She stands as a strategic force, an emotional anchor, and a character willing to confront fear in pursuit of control and stability.

With deeper emotional storytelling and powerful performances, Daredevil: Born Again Season 2 continues to expand the legacy of one of Marvel’s most complex relationships.
