Baby Scooby-Doo Revealed In First Look At Netflix’s Live-Action Scooby-Doo: Origins

Scooby-Doo: Origins turns baby Scooby into the key to Mystery Inc.’s first case.

Netflix has revealed the first look at baby Scoob in Scooby-Doo: Origins, the upcoming live-action series based on the long-running mystery franchise.

The reveal introduces Scooby-Doo as a young Great Dane puppy and marks a first for the franchise. Scooby-Doo: Origins will be the first Scooby-Doo project where the character is portrayed by a real dog in live-action. Previous live-action films used a CGI version of Scooby-Doo alongside live-action cast members.

The series is currently in production in Atlanta, Georgia, and is scheduled to premiere globally on Netflix in 2027.

What Is Scooby-Doo Origins About?

Origins as a modern reimagining of the iconic mystery-solving group of teens and their very special dog.

The series follows Shaggy and Daphne during their final summer at camp. After they encounter a lonely, lost Great Dane puppy who may have witnessed a supernatural murder, the two friends are pulled into a haunting mystery.

Velma, a pragmatic and scientific townie, and Freddy, the strange but handsome new kid, join the case as the group investigates a creepy nightmare that threatens to reveal their secrets.

First Look At Baby Scoob

The first look places baby Scooby-Doo at the center of the new Netflix series.

"Brown puppy with green collar sitting on tiled floor indoors, wood-paneled walls in background, warm lighting."

Instead of introducing Scooby as the fully formed version audiences know from the animated shows and past films, Scooby-Doo: Origins begins with him as a lost Great Dane puppy connected to the central mystery. The puppy may have witnessed a supernatural murder, which becomes the case that brings Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Freddy together.

The real-dog approach also separates the series from the 2002 live-action Scooby-Doo movie and 2004 sequel Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed, where Scooby-Doo was created through visual effects.

A Brief History Of The Franchise

Scooby-Doo began with Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!, which premiered in 1969. The original animated series introduced Scooby-Doo, Shaggy, Daphne, Velma, and Fred as a group of friends who solved mysteries involving ghosts, monsters, and strange creatures.

The franchise has continued for decades across animated series, animated movies, direct-to-video films, specials, video games, merchandise, and live-action films.

Scooby-Doo: Origins brings the franchise back to live-action with a story set before the Mystery Inc. team becomes the group audiences know.
