Matt Fraction and Scott Snyder bring two versions of the Dark Knight together for a special comic celebrating Batman’s different worlds.
DC is giving Batman fans two Dark Knights for the price of one this Batman Day.
Batman of Two Worlds will headline DC’s Batman Day celebration with two original stories inside one special comic. The release brings Batman and Absolute Batman together while showcasing how differently each hero approaches justice.
Batman Day takes place on September 19, with the comic available through participating comic shops worldwide. DC has also confirmed several additional releases and promotions surrounding the annual celebration.
The special arrives during one of Batman’s busiest publishing eras in recent memory. Matt Fraction currently leads the main Batman series. Scott Snyder continues expanding the wildly different world of Absolute Batman.
Batman of Two Worlds gives readers both interpretations within a single release.
Batman and Absolute Batman Face the Same Problem
Fraction writes the traditional Batman story alongside artist Javi Fernández. Tomeu Morey provides colors, while Clayton Cowles handles lettering.
Snyder writes the accompanying Absolute Batman story with artist Nick Derington. Frank Martin provides colors, with Tom Napolitano handling lettering.
The main cover combines artwork from Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, and Martin.
While these Batmen exist in dramatically different worlds, both stories revolve around a shared concept.
“Both stories are about theft, what theft means in one world versus the other,” Snyder said.
However, each Batman responds differently.
That difference becomes the entire point of placing these stories together.
“At the heart of it, it’s really simple,” Fraction said. “One problem, two solutions.”
Fraction said each Batman brings his own methods and solution to the problem.
Mainline Batman operates within the familiar Gotham City readers have watched evolve for decades.
Absolute Batman comes from a universe built around dramatically different circumstances, resources, and relationships.
Those differences have helped make the Absolute Universe one of DC’s biggest recent publishing initiatives.
Batman of Two Worlds turns that contrast into the centerpiece of Batman Day.
DC Expands Batman Day With Four Collectible Masks
The celebration will extend beyond the new comic. Participating comic shops will offer four paper Batman masks featuring different versions of the Caped Crusader.
Fans can choose Batman, Absolute Batman, Hush Batman, and The Dark Knight Returns Batman.
Artist Ryan Sook created all four masks. Each design reflects the visual styles associated with Jorge Jiménez, Nick Dragotta, Jim Lee, and Frank Miller.
Five Hardcovers Join the Celebration
DC is also using Batman Day to spotlight five hardcover releases covering several eras of the character.
Batman Vol. 1: Daylight collects Fraction and Jiménez’s current run. That artwork pays homage to Dragotta’s instantly recognizable Absolute Batman #1 cover.
DC previously launched Fraction and Jiménez’s new Batman era with a redesigned suit, Batmobile, and supporting status quo.
Batman ’89 also receives a hardcover release. Sam Hamm and Joe Quinones’ continuation of Michael Keaton’s Batman universe gets an exclusive Batman Day dust jacket.
The package also includes a digital code for Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman movie.
H2SH Volume One arrives in hardcover.
Jeph Loeb and Jim Lee reunite for the long-awaited continuation of their legendary Batman: Hush storyline.
DC will also release Batman: The Dark Knight Returns Deluxe Edition.
Frank Miller’s influential Batman story receives new cover artwork from Raymond Swanland.
The release includes imagery inspired by the animated adaptations and a digital code for those movies.
Finally, Rafael Grampá’s Batman: Gargoyle of Gotham – The Deluxe Edition joins the lineup.
Batman Day Celebrates Multiple Generations of the Dark Knight
The 2026 Batman Day lineup stretches across several dramatically different interpretations of Bruce Wayne.
Fans can revisit Michael Keaton’s Gotham through Batman ’89. They can return to Miller’s future Batman through The Dark Knight Returns.
Loeb and Lee continue the world of Hush. Fraction and Jiménez represent Batman’s current mainline era.
Meanwhile, Snyder’s Absolute Universe continues rebuilding familiar DC mythology from completely different foundations.
That variety makes Batman of Two Worlds an especially fitting centerpiece. Batman has changed countless times throughout his publishing history. His resources change. His relationships evolve. Gotham itself gets reinvented. Yet the central mission remains recognizable.
Batman of Two Worlds puts that idea directly under the microscope. One problem. Two Batmen. Two completely different solutions.
Batman of Two Worlds will be available at comic shops worldwide during Batman Day on September 19.
