Beloved Australian series Bluey makes its big-screen debut.
BBC Studios and Walt Disney Studios, in partnership with Ludo Studio, announced Bluey The Movie. The film will premiere in cinemas worldwide on August 6, 2027. The feature-length film is written and directed by Joe Brumm, creator of Bluey. Ludo Studio produces it in collaboration with BBC Studios. Amber Naismith (Happy Feet, The LEGO Movie) serves as producer, with Richard Jeffery (Bluey, Series 1–3) returning as co-director.
Joe Brumm is also an executive producer alongside Justine Flynn for BBC Studios, with Charlie Aspinwall and Daley Pearson representing Ludo Studio. For Disney, the project will be overseen by David Greenbaum, president of Disney Live Action and 20th Century Studios.
Returning Voices and Big-Screen Adventure
The film will feature the return of Melanie Zanetti and David McCormack as Mum (Chilli) and Dad (Bandit). The Emmy and BAFTA Award-winning show’s big-screen debut will mark the first theatrical outing for the beloved blue heeler and her family. Composer Joff Bush, who has scored the series, will provide music for the film.
“I really enjoyed the experience of working with a longer format on ‘The Sign’ in Series 3, so going even further with a feature film feels like a natural extension of that,” Brumm said. “I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together. I’m excited to continue to partner with BBC Studios and Disney to bring this new ‘Bluey’ story to the big screen.”
A Global Phenomenon
Bluey is currently available in over 140 markets and has become one of the most-watched series globally on Disney+. It was the most-streamed show in the U.S. in 2024. It also topped streaming charts in the first half of 2025. The series is also the No. 1 kids’ program on CBeebies and Disney+ in the UK.
The show has received widespread acclaim and numerous honors, including a 2024 Peabody Award and back-to-back Television Critics Association Awards in 2023 and 2024.
About ‘Bluey’
The series follows Bluey, a lovable and energetic blue heeler puppy who lives with her Mum, Dad, and little sister, Bingo. With her boundless imagination, Bluey creates games that unfold in hilarious and heartfelt ways, drawing in her family and neighbors for adventures.
Following its worldwide theatrical release in 2027, the Bluey movie will stream on Disney+ and later air on ABC iview and ABC Kids in Australia.
