Colin Hanks and Ryan Reynolds team up for John Candy Doc ‘I Like Me’.

From director Colin Hanks and producer Ryan Reynolds comes John Candy: I Like Me, a feature documentary honoring the late comedic legend. The film will premiere on the opening night of the 50th Toronto International Film Festival on Thursday, Sept. 4, 2025, before debuting globally on Prime Video on Oct. 10, 2025.
The documentary captures Candy’s life, career, and untimely loss through never-before-seen archival footage, photographs, and intimate interviews with those who knew him best. It aims to remind audiences why Candy remains one of the most beloved actors in film history.
Remembering John Candy
For me personally, John Candy was more than just a comedian on screen—he was one of my favorite actors growing up, and his absence is still felt to this day. Whenever one of his movies appears on TV, I can’t help but stop what I’m doing to watch. Even while scrolling through streaming platforms, if I spot one of his titles, I instantly click play.
Films like Planes, Trains, and Automobiles (1987), Uncle Buck (1989), and Cool Runnings (1993) aren’t just movies—they’re timeless comfort watches. Candy’s ability to mix humor with heart gave his characters a lasting warmth that continues to resonate decades later.
A Lasting Legacy
With John Candy: I Like Me, Prime Video, and the filmmakers hope to celebrate Candy’s impact on audiences worldwide. By combining personal accounts with rare behind-the-scenes material, the documentary offers both a nostalgic journey and a deeper insight into the man behind the laughter.
As someone who still feels the loss of John Candy, this project feels long overdue. His films remain a staple in my personal collection, and his spirit of kindness and humor endures through every rewatch.
John Candy: I Like Me streams on Prime Video beginning Oct. 10, 2025.
