Troy Duffy launches debut Boondock Saints novel on October 21.

First introduced in the 1999 cult classic The Boondock Saints, the MacManus brothers’ untold beginnings will be explored in a new prequel novel. The Boondock Saints, Volume 1: Blood Origin, written and narrated by creator Troy Duffy, debuts October 21. The novel will be available in eBook and audiobook formats as well, and can be pre-ordered here.
A Return to Boston’s Underworld
The novel is written and narrated by Duffy. Blood Origin traces the beginnings of Connor and Murphy MacManus before their rise to vigilante legend. After slipping across the Canadian border in search of the American dream, the brothers are thrown into Boston’s unforgiving criminal underworld.
Through their bond with Rocco—a Mafia foot soldier who would later become their closest ally—the brothers are forced to navigate a world where survival is earned through cunning, loyalty, and a willingness to confront violence with even darker violence.
Brotherhood, Betrayal, and Vigilante Justice
But the novel digs deeper than mob wars and street shootouts. As Connor and Murphy search for the father they never knew, they uncover a legacy of violence embedded in their bloodline. Themes of brotherhood, betrayal, and morality anchor the story, with readers left to decide whether the brothers are truly saints, sinners, or something in between.
“This story is about family, loyalty, and the choices that define us,” Duffy said. “Connor and Murphy’s journey is dark, thrilling, and ultimately unforgettable. It is a deeper look into the world fans fell in love with on screen.”
From Screen to Page
Duffy’s world of Irish-Catholic noir first captivated audiences in 1999 with The Boondock Saints. It starred Norman Reedus as Murphy and Sean Patrick Flanery as Connor, alongside David Della Rocco and Willem Dafoe. The 2009 sequel, The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, deepened the brothers’ mythology and kept fans hungry for more.
A long-awaited third film has been teased for years. However, until then, Blood Origin marks the franchise’s official expansion into fiction. It promises the same gritty tone and morally complex storytelling that made the films a cult phenomenon.
A Cinematic Reading Experience
With his debut novel, Duffy aims to give fans of both the films and crime thrillers a cinematic reading experience. Gritty Boston streets, morally torn characters, and explosive suspense all return in Blood Origin, ensuring the saga continues to resonate with its passionate fan base.
