DC Studios and WB Animation team up for Dynamic Duo, a fresh take on the Robins.
James Gunn has announced the latest addition to the DC Studios and Warner Bros. Pictures Animation slate, a groundbreaking film titled Dynamic Duo. The project will focus on two iconic Robins, Dick Grayson and Jason Todd. It will delve into their early days as Batman’s sidekicks. This marks the first collaboration between DC Studios and the Bill Damaschke-led Warner Bros. Pictures Animation (WBPA), ushering in an exciting new era for the studio.
Gunn expressed his excitement by saying, “Over the moon excited to announce Dynamic Duo, the story of Robin… or should I say, Robins. This is something special.” The project brings together a unique blend of animation, puppetry, and CGI. It will be created by Swaybox, a visionary studio based in New Orleans. Husband-and-wife duo Arthur Mintz and Theresa Andersson are the minds behind Swaybox, with Mintz set to direct the film. Their innovative approach promises a fresh visual style for the DC Universe, marking the studio’s feature film debut.
The film’s screenplay is written by Matthew Aldrich.
He is best known for his work on Coco. It will be produced in partnership with Matt Reeves’ production company, 6th & Idaho. Reeves, who has seen success with The Batman, brings his expertise to the project, further ensuring high expectations for Dynamic Duo.
Gunn also highlighted that this project stands out for its creative fusion of various art forms, which is anticipated to give the film a distinctive aesthetic that blends puppetry with cutting-edge CGI technology. As the first project of its kind between DC Studios and WBPA, Dynamic Duo should offer a refreshing and bold take on the beloved characters of the DC Universe. Fans of both Dick Grayson and Jason Todd have much to look forward to with this innovative storytelling approach.
