Descendants: The Rise of Red Is A Vibrant and Fun Filled Adventure – Movie Review

Check out our interview with the cast of Descendants: The Rise of Red.

“Descendants: The Rise of Red” is now on Disney+, and it is seriously visually stunning. This fourth film features awesome, vibrant colors, top-notch production quality, and a young cast that totally brings their A-game and amplifies the excitement for this latest Descendants movie. The sets and costumes are so awesome and full of details, making the movie look really expensive. Every scene is like a feast for the eyes, showing how much effort and imagination went into creating this magical world.

The story centers on Red, the rebellious daughter of the Queen of Hearts, played by Kylie Cantrall, and Chloe, Cinderella’s perfectionist daughter, portrayed by Malia Baker. When the Queen of Hearts, brought to life with a fabulous and villainous performance by Rita Ora, incites a coup against Auradon, Red, and Chloe must team up and travel back in time to undo the traumatic event that led Red’s mother down her villainous path.

Brandy’s comeback as Cinderella is definitely one of the highlights of the movie.

Her portrayal is full of elegance and grace, giving a nice throwback to fans of the Rodgers and Hammerstein classic. The cast is filled with standout performances, such as Dara Reneé as Uliana, Ruby Rose Turner as Bridget/Young Queen of Hearts, Morgan Dudley as Ella/Young Cinderella, and Joshua Colley as Young Hook, showing off the talent in this film.

I had a blast chatting with the cast, including Peder Lindell, Kylie Cantrall, Malia Baker, and Ruby Rose Turner. They all brought something special to their characters that made them super memorable and easy to relate to. Seeing Kylie and Malia together was so much fun, and I can’t wait to see more from these talented young actresses.

The film also features returning fan favorites like China Anne McClain as Uma, now the new principal at Auradon Prep, and Melanie Paxson as the Fairy Godmother. New characters, such as Jeremy Swift’s Principal Merlin and Leonardo Nam’s Maddox Hatter, add fresh dynamics to the story.

Verdict

I give “Descendants: The Rise of Red” 4 out of 5 stars. It is a colorful, fun-filled adventure that captures the spirit of Disney magic. I only wish films like this existed when I was growing up watching the Disney Channel. It is filled with delightful performances, stunning visuals, and an engaging storyline.

Rating: 4 out of 5.
