Nicola Coughlan joins Ncuti Gatwa in ‘Doctor Who’ Holiday Special.
Disney+ has unveiled the official trailer for “Doctor Who: Joy to the World,” a highly anticipated Christmas special set to premiere on December 25 at 9:10 a.m. PST/12:10 p.m. EST. The festive adventure stars Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor and Nicola Coughlan as Joy, promising an exhilarating holiday journey filled with danger, dinosaurs, and the Doctor’s timeless charm.
Set in 2024, the story follows Joy as she checks into a London hotel and discovers a hidden doorway to the Time Hotel. What begins as a mysterious detour quickly escalates into a deadly Christmas crisis threatening Earth. The cast also includes Steph de Whalley, Jonathan Aris, Joel Fry, Peter Benedict, Julia Watson, and Niamh Marie Smith, bringing a dynamic ensemble to this holiday tale.
Steven Moffat is known for his iconic work on Doctor Who and Sherlock. He wrote and executive produced the special. Alex Sanjiv Pillai directed it. Russell T Davies, the series’ showrunner, joins as an executive producer alongside Joel Collins, Phil Collinson, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter. Bad Wolf produced the episode in collaboration with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC One.
This marks the latest chapter in the series’ storied legacy.
It all began in 1963 and has captivated generations. Gatwa, who debuted as the Fifteenth Doctor in The Church on Ruby Road, has quickly become a fan favorite.
