Doctor Who Spinoff ‘The War Between The Land And The Sea’ Announced at San Diego Comic-Con

Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will lead a new ‘Doctor Who’ 5-part spin-off series.

Disney Branded Television and BBC have just announced a new “Doctor Who” spinoff during San Diego Comic-Con. It is called “The War Between The Land And The Sea.” Russell Tovey and Gugu Mbatha-Raw will lead the series with returning “Doctor Who” cast members Jemma Redgrave as Kate Lethbridge-Stewart and Alexander Devrient as Colonel Ibrahim.

The series follows the emergence of a fearsome and ancient species from the ocean, triggering an international crisis and a war between land and sea. Created by Russell T Davies and Pete McTighe, the series marks the return of the classic “Doctor Who” villains, the Sea Devils, first seen in 1972. Davies expressed his excitement about the project, saying, “I’m so lucky to work with such a magnificent cast. And this is a huge, muscular, thrilling drama that will shake The Whoniverse to its foundations. When the Doctor’s not in town, humanity is in trouble.”

Filming is scheduled to start next month, and Dylan Holmes-Williams will direct. He is known for his work on two episodes of Doctor Who season one: “73 Yards” and “Dot and Bubble.” The series will be available exclusively on Disney+, BBC One, and BBC iPlayer in the U.K. Bad Wolf produced the series in collaboration with BBC Studios for Disney Branded Television and BBC. The series boasts a strong team of executive producers, including Davies, Phil Collinson, Joel Collins, Julie Gardner, and Jane Tranter.

“The War Between The Land And The Sea” promises to deliver an epic and suspenseful narrative, expanding the beloved “Doctor Who” universe and captivating fans worldwide with its high-stakes drama and formidable cast.
