Dog Man will be in theaters on January 31st, 2025.
DreamWorks Animation has just released the trailer for Dog Man. It is the highly anticipated film adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s beloved book series. Known for franchises like Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, DreamWorks brings Pilkey’s unique superhero to the big screen, combining heart, humor, and a lot of canine charm. The story follows a brave police dog and his human officer owner, both injured in the line of duty. In a last-ditch effort to save their lives, an unusual surgery fuses the two. This creates the half-man, half-dog hero: Dog Man. Now, with a new lease on life, Dog Man embraces his role of protecting the city while still navigating his dog-like instincts to fetch, sit, and roll over.
As Dog Man tries to impress his boss, Chief (played by Lil Rel Howery), he faces off against his archenemy, Petey the Cat, voiced by Pete Davidson. Petey’s latest plot involves cloning himself and creating Lil Petey, a mischievous kitten. However, things take an unexpected turn when Lil Petey forms an unlikely friendship with Dog Man, leading to tension between Petey and his clone. When Lil Petey is kidnapped by a common enemy, Dog Man and Petey must reluctantly team up in a high-stakes mission to save the kitten. Along the way, they discover that family bonds can bring even the most unlikely adversaries together.
A Look at the Director and Crew Behind the Film
The star-studded cast also features Isla Fisher as TV reporter Sarah Hatoff, Poppy Liu as Petey’s assistant Butler, Stephen Root as Grampa, Billy Boyd as cameraman Seamus, and Ricky Gervais as the villainous Flippy the fish. Peter Hastings directs the film. He is known for Animaniacs and Pinky and the Brain. Dog Man promises to deliver an action-packed adventure for audiences of all ages.
The series, which has launched in 2016, has sold over 60 million copies worldwide. Its popularity continues to grow with each new release. The latest book in the series, Big Jim Begins, is set to hit shelves on December 3, 2024. Catch the movie in theaters on January 31st, 2025.
