Dexter: Original Sin introduces a young Dexter and his dark code.

SHOWTIME’s new prequel series, Dexter: Original Sin, will begin streaming on December 13. The series will take fans back to 1991 Miami. It will serve as a deep dive into the formative years of Dexter Morgan, a character who originally captivated audiences in the long-running show Dexter, where Michael C. Hall portrayed him. This prequel, however, features Patrick Gibson in the lead role as a younger Dexter.
Set against the backdrop of Dexter’s early years, the story follows his transition from an ordinary student to the infamous serial killer who lives by a strict moral code. The series delves into Dexter’s struggle to control his bloodthirsty urges. Under the guidance of his adoptive father, Harry, played by Golden Globe winner Christian Slater, Dexter learns to channel his dark desires while avoiding law enforcement’s scrutiny. Harry, a former police officer, introduces Dexter to the Code—a set of rules that ensure he only targets those who “deserve” it.
The prequel also explores Dexter’s early experiences working within the Miami Metro Police Department, where he lands a forensics internship. Balancing his internship and dark desires, Dexter must carefully navigate the world of law enforcement while honing his skills as a vigilante killer.

The series boasts a star-studded cast.
It includes Patrick Dempsey, Molly Brown, James Martinez, Christina Milian, Alex Shimizu, and Reno Wilson. Special guest star Sarah Michelle Gellar also joins the ensemble. Fans of the original series will be excited to hear that Michael C. Hall returns to voice Dexter’s iconic inner monologue, maintaining a connection to the original show.
Dexter: Original Sin offers a fresh look at the early evolution of one of television’s most complex anti-heroes. The series will be available to stream on December 13 with the Paramount+ with SHOWTIME plan.
