HBO releases first-look images from the new IT series Welcome to Derry.

HBO has released first-look images from its highly anticipated original drama series IT: Welcome to Derry. The upcoming series, developed by Warner Bros. Television, will debut in 2025 on HBO, with streaming available on Max. The series is created by the team behind the popular IT films. Filmmakers Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti lead the team. Writer-producer Jason Fuchs also contributes to the project.
Based on Stephen King’s 1986 horror novel, IT: Welcome to Derry delves deeper into the haunting lore of Derry, Maine. The show’s story seeks to expand the narrative and themes of the IT universe. It particularly highlights the vision Andy Muschietti crafted in his feature films IT and IT Chapter Two. HBO’s adaptation explores new layers of the terror that plagues Derry. It takes viewers back to the eerie origins of the town’s horrors.

The ensemble cast features Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe, Rudy Mancuso, and the return of Bill Skarsgård, who reprises his spine-chilling role as Pennywise the Dancing Clown. Skarsgård’s portrayal of the nightmarish entity captivated audiences in Muschietti’s films, and his return promises to bring fresh intensity to this expanded story.
Andy Muschietti, known for his horror vision and attention to detail, will direct four of the show’s nine episodes.
The writing team behind the series, led by Andy Muschietti, Barbara Muschietti, and Jason Fuchs, have collaborated closely to build on Stephen King’s original story. The trio, along with HBO and Warner Bros. Television, has crafted a tale that honors the essence of King’s IT while exploring untold stories within the eerie world of Derry.

Produced by HBO and Warner Bros. Television, the series also features the Muschiettis’ Double Dream production company, marking a significant collaboration in horror television. Set photos tease a return to iconic locations in Derry, with haunting, ominous imagery reminiscent of the films’ unnerving aesthetic. The tone of the images suggests that the new series will stay true to the suspense and atmospheric horror that has made IT a landmark in the genre.

IT: Welcome to Derry is becoming a must-watch for horror fans and King enthusiasts alike. With its established creative team and strong cast, the show looks ready to explore Derry’s dark secrets and Pennywise’s terror in terrifying depth.
