The live-action “Lilo & Stitch” adaptation arrives in the summer of 2025.

The highly anticipated live-action adaptation of “Lilo & Stitch” has given fans their first glimpse of Stitch, revealed during Disney’s D23 Expo. Set to hit theaters in the summer of 2025, this remake of the beloved 2002 animated classic will bring the mischievous blue extraterrestrial to life through CGI, and the early look suggests Stitch will maintain his iconic, endearing design.
The original was written and directed by Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois.
It follows the heartwarming story of a 6-year-old girl named Lilo (Maia Kealoha) and her older sister Nani (Sydney Agudong), who live in Hawaii. Their lives turn wild when they adopt a strange creature, whom they name Stitch, unaware that he is a genetically engineered alien designed for destruction. Despite his chaotic nature, Stitch becomes integral to their family, embodying the film’s central theme of ‘ohana, meaning family.

In the live-action version, Sydney Agudong steps into the role of Nani, with Chris Sanders reprising his role as the voice of Stitch. The cast also features Zach Galifianakis as Dr. Jumba Jookiba, the eccentric scientist who created Stitch. Billy Magnussen portrays Agent Pleakley, the quirky alien tasked with capturing Dr. Jumba. Additionally, Courtney B. Vance plays a social worker overseeing Lilo’s situation, adding a new dimension to the storyline.
The film pays homage to the original voice cast.
Tia Carrere, who voiced Nani in the animated version, is returning to play a new character, Mrs. Kekoa. Amy Hill, who voiced Mrs. Hasagawa in the original, will now portray Tūtū, another fresh addition to the story. Jason Scott Lee, who originally voiced David Kawena, also joins the cast.
As excitement builds for this live-action adaptation, fans of the original film are eager to see how this new version will capture the magic of the original, with the beloved character of Stitch at the heart of the adventure once again.
