“For All Mankind” Season 5: Mireille Enos Talks Mars, Space Exploration, and Joining Apple TV’s Sci-Fi Epic – INTERVIEW

Mireille Enos talks “For All Mankind” Season 5 and why she’d stay on Earth.

Apple TV’s “For All Mankind” continues expanding its ambitious alternate-history universe in Season 5, and newcomer Mireille Enos is helping lead humanity’s next chapter on Mars. As tensions grow between Earth and the growing colony on the Red Planet, the acclaimed sci-fi drama pushes deeper into questions around survival, exploration, and the future of civilization itself.

Season 5 picks up years after the Goldilocks asteroid heist. Happy Valley has grown into a thriving colony with thousands of residents. It also serves as a base for new missions which will take humanity even further into the solar system.

Enos joins the ensemble cast alongside returning stars Joel Kinnaman, Toby Kebbell, Edi Gathegi, Cynthy Wu, Coral Peña, and Wrenn Schmidt. New series regulars also include Costa Ronin, Sean Kaufman, Ruby Cruz, and Ines Asserson.

During a recent conversation with Nerdtropolis, Enos opened up about joining “For All Mankind,” the show’s loyal sci-fi fan base, her Houston connection to space history, and why she would not be the first person signing up for life on Mars.

Mireille Enos on Joining “For All Mankind” Season 5

For Enos, joining “For All Mankind” came with equal excitement and pressure. The Apple TV drama has built a passionate following across its first four seasons by imagining what could have happened if the global space race never ended.

“Well, I mean, the legacy of ‘For All Mankind’ and how it keeps reinventing itself every season,” Enos said. “This is a structure that I’ve never seen before in television, to get to spend this kind of time with characters.”

That long-form storytelling stood out to her as an actor. The series moves through decades, allowing characters, families, and political conflicts to evolve across time.

“And what an honor to be asked to join this show that is beloved, this incredible sci-fi fan base, and these wonderful actors,” Enos said. “It felt like a very heavy mantle to pick up and be part of the new generation that also lives in this new colony on Mars.”

Growing Up in Houston and Visiting NASA

The space connection also hits close to home for Enos, who grew up in Houston. Nerdtropolis is also based in Space City, making the conversation a full-circle moment.

When asked whether she ever got nerdy about space while growing up in Houston, Enos said NASA was part of her childhood.

“We definitely did field trips to NASA,” Enos said. “Very proud to be part of the space program city.”

That background gives her a personal connection to the world “For All Mankind” explores. While the show pushes into alternate-history science fiction, its roots remain tied to real space history, ambition, and discovery.

Why Mars Would Not Be Her First Choice

Season 5 explores humanity’s growing presence on Mars as Happy Valley becomes more than a base. It is now a society with thousands of people, daily life, laws, conflicts, and competing visions for the future.

When asked what excites her more about humanity expanding into space — the discovery side or the idea of building a new society from scratch — Enos had a clear answer.

“Definitely the exploration and the science,” Enos said. “And I will admit that the idea of building a new society in space feels overwhelming to me. It stresses me out a little bit.”

She also joked that she would not want to be in charge of that future.

“If this ends up being a reality for humanity, I will not be in charge of any aspect of that,” Enos said. “It feels really, really hard. But luckily, we all have different talents, and there are greater minds than mine who I think might be able to accomplish it.”

As for whether she would move to Mars or another planet one day, Enos did not hesitate.

“I’m staying on Earth,” Enos said. “Thank you. I like plants and sunshine and air.”

Filming Zero-Gravity Scenes in Season 5

Even if Enos prefers Earth in real life, filming “For All Mankind” still gave her a taste of life beyond it.

When asked about her biggest “wow” moment on set, Enos pointed to the chance to perform wirework for the first time.

“Well, I got to do wire work, which I’d never done before,” Enos said. “So I got to pretend to be weightless. And that was really, really awesome.”

The experience gave her a new appreciation for astronauts and the physical reality of space travel.

“The idea that people actually go to space and are weightless and have to learn how to move in that new way, that was a very cool day on set in the spaceship,” Enos said.

“For All Mankind” Keeps Reaching Further

Season 5 continues the show’s tradition of mixing human drama, political conflict, and big science-fiction ideas. With Mars now functioning as a true colony, “For All Mankind” is no longer only asking what could have happened in the space race. It is asking what kind of civilization humanity might build when Earth is no longer the only home.

For Enos, joining that story means going into a series that continues to reinvent itself while holding onto the wonder that made it stand out in the first place.

Episode 507, titled “The Sirens of Titan,” premieres Friday, May 8, on Apple TV. The episode follows a fatal miscalculation that puts the Titan mission in jeopardy as Dev makes a drastic decision.
