I Know What You Did Last Summer Cast Talks Legacy, Nostalgia and Scares – INTERVIEW

Behind the scenes of the new ‘I Know What You Did Last Summer’.

Slasher season is back this summer with a fresh and bloody revival of I Know What You Did Last Summer, hitting theaters July 18, 2025. Directed by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, this chilling new chapter reintroduces audiences to Southport’s sinister secrets, mixing fresh blood with old wounds as the late-90s slasher that defined a generation returns — and brings the original survivors along for the ride while passing the torch to a new group of doomed friends.

The new cast, Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon, join original stars Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt, once again proving that some secrets never stay buried.

A Killer Legacy Returns

The story picks up when five friends cause a deadly car accident and make a pact to cover it up. A year later, they learn that someone knows their secret and is out for revenge, with the help of the only two people who’ve survived this nightmare before.

I caught up with stars Chase Sui Wonders, Jonah Hauer-King, Tyriq Withers, and Sarah Pidgeon to chat about working with the original icons, legacy scares, and some laugh-out-loud moments behind the scenes.

Fan Moments and Fangirling

When asked who fanboyed or fangirled the hardest when Freddie Prinze Jr. and Jennifer Love Hewitt arrived on set, the cast wasted no time pointing fingers.

“Probably me,” Chase said. “Big Heartbreakers fan. Giant Scooby-Doo fan. It was very surreal.”

Who Would Crack Under Pressure?

In a rapid-fire round, the cast revealed who’d spill the beans first if they ever found themselves in a real-life summer nightmare. “Sarah,” Chase admitted. “Yeah, all right,” Sarah added. “Guilty. No hiding now.”

When asked who’d get taken out by the killer first, they all agreed: Sarah said, “We’ve agreed to make a pact, yeah.” Chase added, “We’re all going down together.” Jonah chimed in, “Live together, die together.”

On Getaway Drivers and Secret Parties

It turns out that not everyone would make a great getaway driver. “Why do I feel like it’s Maddie?” Chase joked. “She had a terrible time at the beginning, getting off on the exit ramps,” Sarah added.

Jonah backed them up about Sydney’s road signs being confusing, and they all agreed the city’s urban planning didn’t help. When it comes to throwing an epic secret party, Sarah and Chase both agreed: “Maddie.” Chase added, “Or Jonah.”

Pranks and Scaredy Cats

Who’s the biggest prankster on set? “Chase,” Jonah said right away. “You too, Sarah,” he added, “but Chase would draw our secret code everywhere — cars, shoes — anything with dust on it.” Chase joked back: “If there’s a film of dust on a car, what do you expect? It’s a sensory impulse.”

As for who’s the biggest scaredy cat watching horror movies alone, Sarah admitted, “I’d yelp, but I’d totally watch it alone. I love scary movies. But yeah, if jumpy means scaredy cat, then meow.”

The group’s bond was clear — whether it’s promising to stick together or just teasing each other, they’re in it for the long haul. Once you step foot in Southport, your secrets are never safe.

I Know What You Did Last Summer slashes into theaters July 18, 2025.
