Iwájú arriving on Disney+ next mont.
Walt Disney Animation Studios and the Pan-African entertainment company Kugali are working together on a new original animated series called “Iwájú.” The show will debut exclusively on Disney+ on February 28, 2024, with six episodes. This partnership is a significant milestone in the entertainment industry. “Iwájú” promises to offer audiences an engaging narrative set in futuristic Lagos, Nigeria.
The series follows the story of Tola. She is a young girl from an affluent island, and her friend Kole, a self-taught tech enthusiast. The two navigate their different worlds in a visually stunning landscape inspired by the essence of Lagos. Kugali filmmakers, including Olufikayo Ziki Adeola and production designer Hamid Ibrahim direct the series. “Iwájú” boasts an impressive ensemble cast of voice actors, including Simisola Gbadamosi, Dayo Okeniyi, Femi Branch, Siji Soetan, and Weruche Opia. The show is a fusion of futurism and tradition, promising to resonate with the pulsating rhythm of Lagos.
“Iwájú: A Day Ahead” is a behind-the-scenes documentary accompanying the series debut, offering a glimpse into Kugali’s inception and its transformative journey towards realizing a groundbreaking animation series in collaboration with Disney. Megan Harding directs the documentary. While the series is set to premiere in the US on February 28, 2024, details for other regions, including Nigeria, will be announced soon. “Iwájú” promises to captivate audiences worldwide, offering a compelling blend of storytelling and cultural exploration that transcends boundaries.
