Demons, Love & Kevin Bacon: Inside The Bondsman’s Donnie Darko Reunion.

Kevin Bacon’s latest supernatural series, The Bondsman, is set to premiere all eight episodes on April 3, 2025, exclusively on Prime Video. The show, produced by Blumhouse Television, follows Hub Halloran (Bacon), a bounty hunter resurrected by the Devil to capture escaped demons from Hell. Alongside its thrilling concept, The Bondsman features a surprising reunion—actors Beth Grant and Jolene Purdy, who last worked together 25 years ago on the cult classic Donnie Darko.
I had the pleasure of chatting with Grant and Purdy about their on-screen chemistry, their long-awaited reunion, and The Bondsman’s emotional core, which keeps viewers hooked beyond the gore and supernatural chaos.
A Reunion 25 Years in the Making
When I mentioned their reunion, I was greeted with great excitement. Grant was quick to reminisce about Donnie Darko, calling Purdy “the heart of the movie” and expressing how she had followed her career from afar. “I loved her all these years,” Grant said. It has been joyous, and it’s even better today.”
Purdy shared how nervous she was stepping into The Bondsman, just as she had been on the set of Donnie Darko. But Grant was there to ease her nerves: “She jumped up out of her chair, lit up her face, arms open—it allowed me to breathe into the moment. 25 years in the making, this reunion, and there it is. It couldn’t have been better.”
Love in a World of Demons
Beyond its action-packed, demon-hunting premise, The Bondsman is surprisingly rooted in love. I asked both actresses how love influences their characters’ choices in such a chaotic world. “For me, love is my life word,” Purdy explained. “I want to learn how to love well. My character—everything she does is in love. Maybe not for Hub, but she has her reasons.”

Grant agreed: “Love is the answer to everything. It’s not easy. Nobody said love was easy.” She also reflected on Kevin Bacon’s ability to ground the show in reality: “His character is so real. Maybe I didn’t know guys who literally went to Hell and back, but I’ve known guys like him.”
The Kevin Bacon Effect
Speaking of Bacon, the two actresses couldn’t stop raving about their legendary co-star. “He’s an action star doing his own stunts,” Purdy said. “And so funny, just in his reality of processing the hell that’s going on.”

Grant added, “I knew we would be in good hands with him. He’s the most loved actor in Hollywood and New York. I’ve never had so many people tell me to say hello to someone. I told him I’m gonna make a list and just hand it to him.”
But perhaps the most unexpected revelation? Kevin Bacon makes a mean guacamole. “He hosted us for brunch and made guacamole,” Grant laughed. “And I tried to think of something he can’t do… I don’t think he has the capacity to be unkind.”

The Bondsman combines action, horror, and heartfelt performances, making it a standout in the supernatural genre. While its demonic escapades will draw audiences in, the humanity at its core—exemplified by actors like Grant and Purdy—will keep them hooked.
Make sure to catch The Bondsman when it premieres on Prime Video on April 3, 2025. If you’re a fan of supernatural thrillers, heartfelt reunions, and, apparently, Kevin Bacon’s guacamole, this one’s not to be missed.
