The Bride Trailer: Jessie Buckley and Christian Bale Lead Maggie Gyllenhaal’s Bold Monster Reimagining

The Bride is a bold new take on a timeless monster story.

Warner Bros. has unveiled the first trailer for The Bride, Maggie Gyllenhaal’s radical reimagining of one of horror’s most enduring tales. The film, starring Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley and Academy Award winner Christian Bale, will open exclusively in theaters on March 6.

A Radical New Vision

“There’s a monster inside us all,” teases the trailer, setting the tone for the provocative story. In this version, a lonely Frankenstein (Bale) travels to 1930s Chicago seeking the help of groundbreaking scientist Dr. Euphronious, played by five-time Oscar nominee Annette Bening. Together, they bring to life a murdered young woman, and The Bride (Buckley) is born.

What follows is a feverish blend of horror, romance, and rebellion: murder, possession, a cultural movement, and a fiery love story that defies the boundaries of life and death.

A Stacked Cast

Alongside Buckley, Bale, and Bening, the ensemble includes Peter Sarsgaard, Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, and Oscar winner Penélope Cruz. The project further cements Gyllenhaal’s status as a daring filmmaker after her Oscar-nominated directorial debut, The Lost Daughter.

Behind the Camera

Gyllenhaal also wrote the screenplay and produced with Oscar nominee Emma Tillinger Koskoff, Talia Kleinhendler, and Osnat Handelsman Keren. Executive producers are Carla Raij, David Webb, and Courtney Kivowitz.

A decorated crew of collaborators joins the director:

  • Lawrence Sher (Joker) as director of photography
  • Karen Murphy (Elvis) as production designer
  • Dylan Tichenor (There Will Be Blood) as editor
  • Randall Poster (Killers of the Flower Moon) as music supervisor
  • Hildur Gudnadóttir (Joker) as composer
  • Sandy Powell (The Favourite) as costume designer

The Bride Awakes

The Bride promises to be a visceral, iconoclastic twist on Mary Shelley’s classic myth, delivering a bold new monster for modern audiences. The trailer hints at a combustible mix of gothic horror, emotional intimacy, and cultural chaos.

The film opens in theaters nationwide on March 6.
