Michael Jackson Biopic “Michael” Set for April 2026 Theatrical and IMAX Release

Jaafar Jackson stars as his legendary uncle, Michael Jackson.

The highly anticipated biopic Michael, centered on the life of global music icon Michael Jackson, will officially hit theaters and IMAX screens on April 24, 2026. It is directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer) and produced by Oscar winner Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Departed). The film promises an unflinching, cinematic portrayal of the man behind the music. Lionsgate will distribute Michael domestically, with Universal Pictures handling international territories and Kino Films releasing the film in Japan.

The script is penned by three-time Academy Award nominee John Logan (Gladiator, Skyfall). Jaafar Jackson, the late singer’s real-life nephew, steps into the role of Michael Jackson.

A Story of Triumph, Tragedy, and Musical Genius

Michael aims to offer a raw and powerful glimpse into the King of Pop’s extraordinary life—his meteoric rise, global superstardom, personal battles, and legendary performances. The film will explore both the brilliance and the complexity of one of the most influential entertainers of all time. Jackson’s legacy continues to shape music, dance, and culture.

Producer Graham King shared his passion for the project, saying,

“I’m so honored to tell Michael’s story. It’s been a long journey, and I’m excited for the film to show audiences around the world a perspective of Michael that they’ve never seen.”

Adam Fogelson, Chair of the Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, added,

“Michael Jackson was inarguably one of the greatest entertainers of all time. His impact on music, video, art, fashion, and culture is still profoundly relevant. I can’t wait for audiences to see this film in theaters worldwide next year.”

The film is expected to deliver not just a biographical look at Jackson’s life, but an immersive experience into his most iconic moments. It will feature behind-the-scenes struggles to his unmatched creative process.
