Destin Daniel Cretton begins worldwide search For Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
Lionsgate is officially moving deeper into the world of Naruto. As the studio ramps up pre-production on its highly anticipated live-action adaptation, filmmaker Destin Daniel Cretton is helping launch a global casting search for the three young shinobi at the heart of the story: Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura.
The trio is better known to fans as Team 7. The casting search marks a major step forward for the long-awaited Hollywood adaptation of Masashi Kishimoto’s beloved manga franchise. Casting for other characters will follow.
Cretton, who is also directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, is set to bring Naruto to the big screen in live action for the first time.
Destin Daniel Cretton Begins Search For Naruto, Sasuke, And Sakura
Naruto has built one of the biggest fan bases in manga and anime history.
The story follows Naruto Uzumaki, a young ninja with a lonely past and a massive dream. He wants to become Hokage, the leader of his village, and earn the respect of everyone around him.
That journey begins with Team 7. Naruto is joined by Sasuke Uchiha, a gifted and haunted rival with a dark family legacy. Sakura Haruno completes the trio as a smart and determined young ninja trying to find her own strength. Together, their bond becomes one of the emotional anchors of the franchise.
In launching the casting call on social media, Cretton shared his excitement about finding the actors who will help bring that bond to life.
“Kishimoto-sensei’s stories have inspired generations of fans around the world, and it’s an honor to bring his world and characters to the big screen in live action for the very first time. I’m thrilled to kick off this worldwide casting search for our Team 7 and to bring the incredible universe of Naruto to life!
Masashi Kishimoto Reacts To The Live-Action Naruto Movie
Kishimoto also shared a heartfelt statement about seeing Naruto become a Hollywood movie.
“Right now, miracles are happening to me, one after another. My work, Naruto, is truly, truly becoming a Hollywood movie! And an even greater miracle is that the film will be directed by the one and only Destin Daniel Cretton. I still cannot believe it! If so many miracles have already come together, then let us hope for even more. I am eagerly looking forward to the miraculous encounters that will bring us extraordinary and passionate actors! I cannot wait to meet my characters in the film!”
That support matters because live-action anime adaptations always face intense fan pressure. Naruto is no different. Fans will want the right cast, the right tone, and a world that respects what made the original story so powerful.
Kishimoto’s excitement gives the project a major boost as the search begins.
Why Team 7 Is So Important To Naruto
Team 7 is not just a group of young ninjas. They are the heart of Naruto. Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura each begin the story with different goals, fears, and wounds. Their journey covers friendship, rivalry, loss, growth, and the painful cost of chasing power.
That dynamic helped turn Naruto into a global phenomenon. The manga launched in 1999 and became one of the most successful titles of all time. It also inspired the Naruto and Naruto Shippuden anime series, movies, games, merchandise, and the sequel series Boruto.
For many fans, Naruto was more than an action story. It was a coming-of-age saga about loneliness, found family, and never giving up. That is the challenge facing the live-action movie. The action needs to be big. The ninja world needs to feel real. But the emotional story of Team 7 has to land first.
Naruto Is Moving Closer To The Big Screen
The live-action Naruto movie has been in development for years, but this casting search is one of the clearest signs yet that Lionsgate is moving forward.
Cretton is a major name for the project. He directed Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which balanced martial arts, family drama, fantasy, and large-scale action. That mix makes him a great fit for Naruto, a story that needs both spectacle and emotion.
The big question now is who will play Naruto, Sasuke, and Sakura. With a global search underway, Lionsgate appears to be looking far and wide for the right young actors to lead the franchise.
No release date has been announced for the live-action Naruto movie.
