New Trailer for ‘Creature Commandos’ Promises Action-Packed Monster Missions

Meet DC’s ‘Creature Commandos’ in a new trailer.

James Gunn is back with another unique addition to the DC Universe. The new trailer for the animated series Creature Commandos promises exactly what fans crave: “You wanted monsters? You got motherf*ckin’ monsters.” Set to premiere on December 5, exclusively on Max, this seven-episode adult animated series brings a fresh, monstrous twist to the superhero genre.

Creature Commandos follows a team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions considered too risky for human operatives. When traditional methods fail, these unconventional beings become the last, and often worst, resort. With Gunn’s signature blend of humor, grit, and heart, the series promises a wild ride stretching typical superhero narratives’ boundaries.

The star-studded voice cast features Steve Agee reprising his role as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, and Anya Chalotra as Circe. Zoe Chao lends her voice to Nina Mazursky, while Frank Grillo takes on the role of Rick Flag Sr. Sean Gunn, a familiar face in Gunn’s projects, voices both GI Robot and Weasel, with David Harbour as Frankenstein. Alan Tudyk rounds out the ensemble as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis reprises her live-action role as Amanda Waller.

The trailer also teases appearances from fan-favorites like Clayface and Circe.

The series will offer a story that dives deep into DC’s rich mythological roster. Gunn’s involvement as writer and executive producer guarantees the same irreverent energy for Creature Commandos. His unique style is visible in his previous projects, such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Suicide Squad. During the NYCC panel, Gunn noted that “Every project from DC is its own thing. It’s a connected universe, but we are not imposing an overall aesthetic.”

Gunn’s knack for creating quirky, memorable characters shines through in this trailer, as each monster brings a distinct, chaotic charm to the screen. The series will blend elements of action, dark comedy, and a touch of horror, making it a perfect addition to Max’s growing lineup of original content.

Get ready to meet the Creature Commandos when they storm onto Max on Thursday, December 5.
