Nicolas Cage brings football icon John Madden’s story to life.
If you’ve ever played one of the classic or modern Madden NFL video games, then you might recognize the icon behind it all: John Madden. Although some may not know how John Madden became football’s most influential figure, Prime Video’s Madden offers a closer look at his upbringing and journey.
Nicolas Cage and Prime Video announced the release date of Madden in a special first look video. The upcoming biopic premieres on Prime Video on Tuesday, November 20. Alongside the release date and a first look image, new footage of David O. Russell’s film was also presented.
The film follows the upbringing of American icon John Madden alongside his close friend Al Davis, travelling through multiple points of Madden’s career. From his popular partnership with the Raiders to building the video game franchise so many love playing today, this film offers a closer look at the steps Madden took to become the voice of football.
It’s a celebration about an icon, whose “once in a century spirit and personality, partnership with his daring wife Virginia, lifelong friendships, and infectious love of people and football transcended the world of sports.”
Who Is John Madden?
John Madden was best known for being the Raiders’ head coach in the early 1970s, taking the team all the way to the Super Bowl. His time on the team was extremely notable for giving the franchise its biggest wins on the field. However, most fans recognize Madden from Electronic Arts’ NFL video games, with the next installment already in the works.
With Prime Video’s Madden, football fans can finally watch what it took for John Madden to not only revitalize his team, but also the sport, for future generations.
Nicolas Cage Is the Quarterback of the Team
Nicolas Cage, who’s coming off from another Prime Video series, Spider-Noir, will be playing John Madden as the film looks back on the star’s iconic moments. Additionally, Christian Bale will be playing Madden’s close friend, Al Davis.
The cast of Madden also includes Kathryn Hahn, Sienna Miller, John Mulaney, and Shane Gillis. David O. Russell, who directed American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook, will be directing in addition to writing alongside Cambron Clark.
Madden is executive produced by David Bloomfield, Constance Schwartz-Morini, and Michael Strahan. Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Steve Tisch, Jonathan Shukat, David O. Russell, Matthew Budman, and Colin Wilson also produce.
Madden premieres on November 20 on Prime Video.
