Kit Connor is reportedly nearing a deal to play Scott Summers, joining Sadie Sink and Samara Weaving in Marvel Studios’ growing X-Men lineup.

Another X-Man is looking the fray for Jake Schreier’s upcoming X-Men film! Today, it was announced that Heartstopper‘s Kit Connor is joining the cast as the iconic X-Men leader, Scott Summers aka Cyclops. The announcement comes days after Samara Weaving was confirmed to be joining the film as Emma Frost.
Deadline exclusively reported that Connor, who was also in A24’s Warfare and the currently developing Elden Ring adaptation is closing in on portraying Cyclops. The process to rounding out one of Marvel Comics’ most memorable team has been a hard one, but the door has certainly been opened.
This is in part due to the introduction of Sadie Sink’s Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. Director Destin Daniel Cretton had previously mentioned to The Wrap that he asked to use the character in the now-released film, unlike having a studio madate. Grey’s introduction in the Marvel Cinematic Universe finally set the stage for mutants to make their full arrival in this franchise.
Although Jean Grey was a villain in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, the ending of that film saw her on her way to become a hero. However, it is unknown where she’s specifically going, but fans can hope that she will end up at Professor X’s doorstep. With Connor’s casting as Cyclops, it’s a certainty that Sink’s Jean Grey will be forming the new X-Men with him.
Scott Summers, aka Cyclops, made his comic book debut back in The X-Men #1, which released in September 1963. Since then, Cyclops has been a part of several mutant-related teams, whether that be the first X-Men team, the first incarnation of the X-Force, and even X-Factor.
In addition, Cyclops’ love interests include Jean Grey and Emma Frost as well.
Given how Sink and Weaving are set to also join Schreier’s X-Men movie, it’s likely that fans may get some little teases at Cyclops’ relationships with the two. Furthermore, one of Spider-Man: Brand New Day‘s plot elements may also see new life as it may lead to a storyline inspired by “X-Men: Days of Future Past.”
That said, Marvel fans will also be treated to the return of a different Cyclops, played by original X-Men star James Marsden, in Avengers: Doomsday. The upcoming culmination film will see the original X-Men team, which includes Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellan’s Magneto, joining forces with the Avengers to fight Doctor Doom.
Furthermore, this isn’t the first time that Heartstopper fans got to see their favorite stars join Marvel Studios’ cinematic world. In Agatha All Along, series star Joe Locke was revealed to be one of the Scarlet Witch’s sons, Billy Maximoff aka Wiccan. After this series premiered, fans were hoping that Connor would be playing Hulkling, reflecting the duo’s character dynamics from Heartstopper.
X-Men is currently in development.
