Nintendo Switch 2 Pre-Orders Open April 9: Here’s What You Need to Know.

Nintendo has officially announced the upcoming release of the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5, 2025, with a suggested retail price of $449.99 in the United States. This next-generation console introduces several enhancements over its predecessor, aiming to elevate the gaming experience for new and seasoned players.

Enhanced Hardware and Features

The Nintendo Switch 2 boasts a larger 7.9-inch LCD screen with 1080p resolution, delivering vibrant colors and sharp visuals. The system supports up to 4K resolution when docked, providing a more immersive experience on compatible televisions. The console has 256 GB of internal storage, accommodating a growing library of digital titles.

A notable innovation is the reimagined Joy-Con 2 controllers, which now attach magnetically to the console. Each controller can function similarly to a computer mouse in compatible games, offering new control possibilities and enhancing gameplay precision.

GameChat and GameShare: Connecting Players

Nintendo introduced GameChat, a new online feature that allows players to communicate via voice and video chat during gameplay. Utilizing the system’s built-in microphone and a compatible USB-C camera (sold separately), up to 12 players can engage in conversations, fostering a more connected gaming community. This feature will be available without a Nintendo Switch Online membership until March 2026, after which a subscription will be required.

Additionally, the GameShare feature enables players to share and play the same game with others who do not own the title. Users can temporarily share their games by inviting friends via local play, promoting cooperative and social gaming experiences.

Flagship Games and GameCube Classics

The launch lineup for the Nintendo Switch 2 includes several flagship titles designed to showcase the console’s new capabilities:

  • Mario Kart World: This is the latest installment in the beloved racing series. It introduces open stages and new game modes and supports up to 24 drivers in a single race. Players can experience dynamic weather conditions and off-road racing, adding depth and excitement to the gameplay.
  • Donkey Kong Bananza: A brand-new 3D platforming adventure featuring Donkey Kong, where players can crash, bash, and climb through various environments. The game emphasizes exploration and destruction, offering a fresh take on the classic franchise.
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment: Developed by Koei-Tecmo Games with support from Nintendo, this title delves into the untold story of the Imprisoning War. It features characters like Princess Zelda and King Rauru. Players can engage in epic battles against hordes of enemies, experiencing a pivotal chapter in Hyrule’s history.

In addition to new titles, Nintendo is expanding its Nintendo Switch Online service to include a selection of GameCube classics. At launch, subscribers with the Expansion Pack will have access to enhanced versions of games such as F-Zero GX, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, and SOULCALIBUR II. These classics will feature improved image quality and higher resolution, allowing both new players and longtime fans to experience these titles anew.

Pre-Orders and Availability

Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 will begin at participating retailers on April 9, 2025. In addition to the standard console, Nintendo will offer the Nintendo Switch 2 + Mario Kart World Bundle for $499.99, which includes the system and a download code for Mario Kart World.

With its array of new features, enhanced hardware, and a robust lineup of games, the Nintendo Switch 2 aims to deliver a comprehensive and immersive gaming experience for players worldwide.
