Omari Hardwick and Kacey Rohl Hint at Star Trek: Section 31 Surprises for Trekkies

Inside Star Trek: Section 31 with Omari Hardwick and Kacey Rohl.

Paramount+ has reignited the warp engines of the Star Trek universe with the release of Star Trek: Section 31. The highly anticipated film sees Michelle Yeoh reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from Star Trek: Discovery, as she embarks on a secret mission with Starfleet’s clandestine division. Joining Yeoh are Omari Hardwick (Power) and Kacey Rohl (Hannibal), both bringing depth and intrigue to their roles. I had the chance to sit down with the duo to discuss their experiences and what fans can expect from this bold new chapter in Star Trek history.

A Legacy Reignited

“It feels so good,” said Hardwick when asked about being part of the first Star Trek film in nearly a decade. “It feels like not only Alex Kurtzman and Olatunde Osunsanmi, but also Gene Roddenberry himself whispered to us to come join. That’s what’s amazing about Star Trek: the legacy. Sixty-plus years of storytelling.”

Hardwick’s reverence for the series’ history is palpable, and he sees his participation as an opportunity to honor what came before. “None of this works without the foundation laid by those original stories. It’s pretty amazing to be tasked with continuing such a legacy,” he added.

The Ultimate Star Trek Easter Egg

Kacey Rohl, who plays Rachel Garrett—a character deeply embedded in Star Trek lore—revealed that she discovered the significance of her role only after her second callback. “I wasn’t previously aware of who she was when I started auditioning. Then I found out and thought, ‘Oh no, this is a big deal.’ I don’t take the responsibility lightly,” she shared.

Garrett, first portrayed by Tricia O’Neil in Star Trek: The Next Generation, is a pivotal character in the franchise. For Rohl, stepping into those shoes was an honor. “She’s precious to me. How she factors into everything is a big deal. I’m thrilled to plant seeds that will bloom into what fans already know from ‘Yesterday’s Enterprise,’” she explained.

Section 31 Secrets

When asked about what might surprise fans about Section 31, Hardwick leaned into the intrigue. “Without giving too much away, I think fans will love the last scene. There’s a who and a what that will be seen, and it’s legendary. That final scene—it’s got some triple entendres, even quadruples,” he teased with a grin.

Hardwick’s co-star, Rohl, chimed in on his enthusiasm. “We were skating close to spoilers,” she joked, highlighting the tightly guarded nature of the film’s plot.

A Film for All Generations

Star Trek: Section 31 promises to bridge the gap between longtime Trekkies, new fans, and everyone in between. As Hardwick noted, “This movie is for old-school fans, the ones who came later, and brand-new fans. It’s a home run.”

With a stellar cast that includes Emmy winner Sam Richardson, Robert Kazinsky, Sven Ruygrok, James Hiroyuki Liao, Humberly Gonzalez, Joe Pingue, and Miku Martineau as a young Philippa Georgiou, the film is packed with talent ready to boldly go where no one has gone before.

Star Trek: Section 31 is now streaming exclusively on Paramount+. Prepare to engage and immerse yourself in a thrilling journey that redefines the boundaries of the Federation while paying homage to its enduring legacy.
