Prime Video’s “God of War” Adds Alastair Duncan, Jeff Gulka and Danny Woodburn as Casting Ramps Up in Vancouver

“God of War” TV Series adds key Dwarven Brothers and the ‘Smartest Man in the World’.

Prime Video’s upcoming “God of War” series is adding more familiar faces and voices to its growing ensemble. Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios announced new casting. Alastair Duncan, Jeff Gulka, and Danny Woodburn have joined the cast as Mimir, Sindri, and Brok, respectively, for the adaptation based on PlayStation’s mythology-driven hit video game franchise. The series has a two-season order, with pre-production underway in Vancouver as casting continues.

The show centers on Kratos and his son, Atreus, as they set out to spread the ashes of Faye, the wife and mother they lost. Along the way, Kratos tries to teach Atreus how to be a better god, while Atreus pushes his father to be a better human. The previously announced cast includes Ryan Hurst as Kratos, Max Parker as Heimdall, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, and Mandy Patinkin as Odin.

Emmy Award-winning director Frederick E.O. Toye, known for work on “Shōgun,” “The Boys,” and “Fallout,” is set to direct the first two episodes. Ronald D. Moore serves as showrunner, executive producer, and writer. The series is co-produced by Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios in association with PlayStation Productions and Tall Ship Productions.

Alastair Duncan Brings Mimir From Game to Screen

Alastair Duncan will play Mimir, a role he also voiced in the “God of War” and “God of War Ragnarök” video games. Mimir is described as a cheerful, fast-talking intellect from Celtic lands who calls himself the “Smartest Man in the World.” Once an advisor to Odin, Mimir was ultimately punished and confined to the trunk of a tree, cut off from the people he loved and from anything that fed his mind. After his banishment, he seeks atonement for the terrible deeds he carried out in the All-Father’s name.

Duncan’s career spans decades, beginning with a TV debut in 1983 on the Scottish series “Taggart.” He later appeared in British staples including “The Hound of the Baskervilles” with Jeremy Brett and “Poirot” with David Suchet. He went on to work on films including “Split Second,” opposite Rutger Hauer, and later appeared in “Tower of Terror” and “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo.”

In the early 2000s, Duncan moved heavily into voice acting, playing Alfred in multiple seasons of the animated series “The Batman,” as well as several related films and video games. He also voiced Celebrimbor in “Shadow of Mordor” and “Shadow of War,” in addition to his work as Mimir.

Jeff Gulka Cast as Sindri, a Neurotic Master Blacksmith

Jeff Gulka has been cast as Sindri, one half of a legendary dwarven blacksmith duo whose work is sought across the realms. Sindri is known for incredible craftsmanship, but his personality is just as defining. He is neurotic, helpful, and extremely germaphobic, a sharp contrast to his foul-mouthed brother and business partner, Brok.

Gulka is known for roles including Gibson Praise in “The X-Files” and Charlie in “Stargate SG-1.”

Danny Woodburn Joins as Brok, the Beloved, Gruff Weapons Dealer

Danny Woodburn will play Brok, the brash and irreverent dwarven blacksmith who stands in constant contrast to his uptight brother, Sindri. Brok is a legendary craftsman who became alienated from his community after helping build a super-weapon. He is gruff and combative, and his relationship with Sindri is famously contentious. For gamers, Brok is a fan-favorite weapons dealer with a reputation for creative, foul-mouthed curses and unrivaled artistry.

Woodburn’s recent credits include a series regular role in the final two seasons of Netflix’s “The Witcher” and a recurring role on HBO Max’s “Bookie.”

With pre-production moving forward in Vancouver and a two-season order already in place, “God of War” is shaping up as one of Prime Video’s biggest swings at a prestige franchise adaptation, now anchored by performers stepping into some of the game’s most memorable characters.
