Owen Wilson searches for his missing son inside the massive hip-hop festival in the new comedy inspired by a true story.
Owen Wilson picked the loudest possible place to prove he is a cool dad. The trailer for Rolling Loud The Movie from Ketchup Entertainment who just gave us Coyote Vs. Acme, drops Wilson into the middle of the world’s largest hip-hop festival alongside comedian Matt Rife and superstar rapper Travis Scott.
Wilson plays a by-the-book father who sneaks his 13-year-old son, played by Christian Convery, into Rolling Loud for a bonding weekend. However, everything spirals out of control when the two become separated among thousands of festivalgoers.
The premise hits especially close to home for me. When I was 12 years old, my dad took me to my first concert, Ozzfest. At one point, he left to grab a beer. When he returned, people in the lawn and seated sections were throwing bottles back and forth, creating a rowdy wave of concertgoers that made it nearly impossible for him to see where I was sitting.
Thankfully, we eventually reunited, but it remains an unforgettable father-son concert story. That memory immediately came rushing back while watching the trailer for Rolling Loud The Movie.
A Real Father-Son Experience Inspired the Movie
Writer and director Jeremy Garelick based Rolling Loud The Movie on his own experience attending the festival with his teenage son. What began as an anxiety-filled parenting experience eventually became the foundation for a comedy about fatherhood, trust and connecting with a teenager.
Wilson’s search sends him through mosh pits, backstage areas and massive crowds. Along the way, he joins forces with unpredictable characters played by Rife and Christine Ko.
Scott appears as a version of himself and serves as the festival’s headliner. Sexyy Red, Ty Dolla $ign and Ski Mask The Slump God also bring real hip-hop star power to the movie.
The cast also includes Henry Winkler and Jolene. By bringing together actors, comedians and recording artists, the film blends a father-son comedy with the atmosphere of an actual music festival.
Garelick wrote the screenplay and produced the film alongside Stella Bulochnikov, Robin Rapino, Will Phelps, Doug Banker and Jolene.
What Is Rolling Loud?
Childhood friends and Miami natives Matt Zingler and Tariq Cherif founded Rolling Loud in 2015 after spending years promoting concerts throughout South Florida.
The festival quickly expanded beyond Miami, reaching Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco and Australia within its first five years. Rolling Loud later launched events in Portugal, the Netherlands, Germany, Austria, Toronto, Thailand and India.
Now described as the world’s largest hip-hop festival, Rolling Loud has grown beyond a concert series to become an international lifestyle brand.
That history gives Rolling Loud The Movie a setting rarely explored by a major comedy. Instead of creating a fictional festival, the movie places its characters inside a recognizable cultural event filled with artists closely connected to its global rise.
The result appears to be part father-son comedy, part backstage adventure and part celebration of the music, fans and unpredictable energy that made Rolling Loud a global force.
Rolling Loud The Movie will be released in theaters October 2, 2026.
