From manga to musical, Sailor Moon 2.5D stage show heads to the U.S.

The globally acclaimed 2.5D musical Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: The Super Live is set to embark on a North American tour this March following its successful London engagement. The tour will feature previews and technical rehearsals in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. It will culminate in an official opening on March 15 in Austin, Texas, as part of South by Southwest (SXSW).

The production is based on the beloved manga Sailor Moon by Naoko Takeuchi. It brings the iconic story of Usagi Tsukino and her fellow Sailor Guardians to life in a visually stunning stage performance. The show mixes action, heartfelt moments, and iconic music. It follows the teenage heroines as they battle dark forces. They fight to protect Earth from evil.

Kaori Miura directs the production. She is known for her work on The Prince of Tennis and Tokyo Revengers: The Musical. The production features choreography by Satomi Toma. It also includes music by Go Sakabe and KYOHEI. The show will be performed in Japanese with English subtitles, creating an authentic experience for fans while remaining accessible to newcomers.
“At its very basic, Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon is about five girlfriends banding together to fight for what they believe in… that’s timely,” said Miura. “Sailor Moon and her fellow guardians are imbued with self-determination and agency. They are the ultimate example of ‘girl power.’”
