Selena Gomez Reveals First Look At ‘Wizards Beyond Waverly Place’

Selena Gomez will return for a quick appearance on Wizards of Waverly Place sequel.

Selena Gomez took the stage at the Disney Upfront in New York today to announce the official title of the highly anticipated new series, “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.” The show continues the Emmy Award-winning “Wizards of Waverly Place,” which aired from 2007 to 2012. Gomez, who is an executive producer and guest star for the new series, also revealed first-look images and the series logo.

The images give fans a nostalgic glimpse of Gomez and David Henrie reprising their beloved roles as Alex and Justin Russo. The photos also introduce viewers to the new Russo family: Mimi Gianopulos as Giada Russo, Alkaio Thiele as Roman Russo, and Max Matenko as Milo Russo. Adding fresh energy to the cast, Janice LeAnn Brown stars as Billie, the new series lead. Additionally, Taylor Cora has joined the cast as Winter, Billie’s bubbly, quirky, and oversharing best friend.

The series synopsis promises an exciting blend of old and new. “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” follows an adult, Justin Russo, who has chosen a normal, mortal life with his family. His peaceful existence is disrupted when his sister Alex arrives with Billie, seeking Justin’s help. Realizing he must dust off his magical skills, Justin finds himself mentoring the young wizard-in-training while balancing his everyday responsibilities and safeguarding the future of the Wizard World.

Gomez expressed her excitement about the project.

She noted the joy of revisiting the characters that have meant so much to her and the fans. “It’s amazing to bring these characters back to life and introduce a new generation to the magical world of the Russos,” she said. The creative team behind “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place” includes Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, who serve as writers and executive producers alongside Gary Marsh, Gomez, and Henrie. Andy Fickman directed and executive-produced the pilot and will direct multiple episodes throughout the series.

From Disney Branded Television, the new series is slated to premiere on Disney Channel and Disney+ later this year, ensuring that fans old and new can soon enjoy the magical adventures of the Russo family once more. With the announcement of “Wizards Beyond Waverly Place,” Disney continues to build on the rich legacy of its beloved original series, promising a mix of nostalgia and new adventures that will captivate audiences. The return of Gomez and Henrie, along with a fresh cast, sets the stage for a magical new chapter in the Wizarding World.
