Levy directs original Star Wars adventure in uncharted timeline.

Lucasfilm has officially unveiled the cast of Star Wars: Starfighter, the next feature film set in the galaxy far, far away. To mark the start of production, the studio confirmed that Ryan Gosling, who was previously announced, will star alongside Flynn Gray, Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, Daniel Ings, and Amy Adams.
An All-New Standalone Story
Unlike previous entries in the franchise, Star Wars: Starfighter is an original standalone story. It is set in an era never before explored on-screen. The film is slated for a theatrical release on May 28, 2027.
Director Shawn Levy expressed his enthusiasm for the project in a statement:
“I feel a profound sense of excitement and honor as we begin production on Star Wars: Starfighter. From the day Kathy Kennedy called me, inviting me to develop an original adventure in this incredible Star Wars galaxy, this experience has been a dream come true, both creatively and personally. Star Wars shaped my sense of what story can do, how characters and cinematic moments can live with us forever. To join this storytelling galaxy with such brilliant collaborators onscreen and off, is the thrill of a lifetime.”
Creative Team and Production
The film is directed and produced by Levy, alongside Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy. Ryan Gosling, Dan Levine, Mary McLaglen, and Josh McLaglen serve as executive producers. Jonathan Tropper, a frequent collaborator of Levy, pens the screenplay.
With a mix of established stars and fresh faces, Star Wars: Starfighter promises to deliver a new chapter in the saga’s legacy while charting unexplored territory in the franchise’s timeline.
Star Wars: Starfighter is scheduled to hit theaters on May 28, 2027.
