Kiki’s Delivery Service Flies Into IMAX for the First Time in Newly Restored 4K

GKIDS and IMAX bring Kiki’s Delivery Service back in 4K for an exclusive run.

The beloved animated classic Kiki’s Delivery Service is returning to theaters in a way fans have never experienced before. The timeless film from Academy Award-winning director Hayao Miyazaki will debut in North American cinemas newly remastered in 4K, exclusively in IMAX theaters.

This marks the first time in history that Kiki’s Delivery Service will play on IMAX screens. The limited one-week engagement begins March 13, 2026, in theaters across the United States and Canada. Tickets are on sale now, with screenings available in both the original Japanese language with subtitles and the English-language dubbed version.

The film was directed, written, and produced by Miyazaki and features a sweeping musical score from longtime collaborator Joe Hisaishi.

A Studio Ghibli Classic Gets the IMAX Treatment

Originally released in 1989, Kiki’s Delivery Service remains one of Studio Ghibli’s most cherished films. The story follows a young witch named Kiki who moves to a seaside town and starts her own delivery service using her flying broom. What begins as a coming-of-age adventure becomes a heartfelt story about independence, confidence, and finding your place in the world.

Now, thanks to the continued partnership between GKIDS and IMAX, the film returns fully restored in 4K. The upgraded presentation promises sharper animation detail, richer colors, and enhanced sound that fills the entire IMAX auditorium. For longtime fans, this is a rare chance to see the film on the biggest screen possible. For newcomers, it offers a stunning first introduction to one of animation’s most enduring stories.

This IMAX event follows last year’s announcement that GKIDS would continue bringing remastered 4K Studio Ghibli titles to IMAX screens across North America. Kiki’s Delivery Service becomes the latest title in that ongoing collaboration.

An All-Star English Voice Cast

The English-language version features a strong voice cast, including Kirsten Dunst as Kiki. She is joined by Janeane Garofalo, Phil Hartman, and Debbie Reynolds. Their performances helped introduce the film to a wider North American audience and remain a favorite among fans.

Meanwhile, viewers who prefer the original version can enjoy the Japanese-language presentation with subtitles, offering a different perspective on Miyazaki’s storytelling.

A Magical Experience on the Big Screen

Seeing Kiki’s Delivery Service in IMAX is more than a nostalgic trip. It is an opportunity to revisit a story that continues to inspire audiences of all ages. The sweeping cityscapes, flying sequences, and emotional moments are poised to feel bigger and more immersive than ever.

With only a one-week engagement, the 4K IMAX release makes this theatrical return feel like a special event. Whether you grew up with Kiki or are discovering her journey for the first time, this exclusive IMAX run promises a magical experience that truly takes flight.
